VPS Performance

Hello,

Yes, I'm posting here for VPS performance idealism. Since my website using 1% (2% at most) of my dedicated server, I don't see a reason to keep it up. I had a idea that could make money, but it hasn't and would now like to bring down my monthly fee.

I plan to go to Dedicated again, but when I have a secure funding method. I feel really sad because I got the high end dedicated server on that ultimately generous sale... now I'll have to say good bye. Might sound geeky, but it was like my child... my rented child...

My website gets around 100 hits tops (plan to change that) and bandwidth using around 2gb tops (not dedicated material as you can see). I'm sure the low end VPS will suite me quite fine (though lower that would work, I do have chat software and wish to keep a source of "power" by having root access). I also need the WHM for my projects, os yeah...

So, how have the VPS servers been? Tolerable? I'v heard abit of remorse, but if they've ultimately been good, I'll go for the recently new Surpass service.

Yea that sale on the dedi's was temping but just way more than I need so I went VPS back in May.

I have had some weird quirks and one on going but nothing really that I'd drop my VPS for. I just need to catch it one of these times soon enough to sick support on it. hehe.

I have not kept exact stats but I would say my VPS has been fairly rock solid over all about 98% of the time. Very good in my opinion. I have 4 static sites and 3 small SMF forums going and rarely skip a heart beat. I'd say the forums on average load about 3 times faster than they did on the OC5 I had before.

And you have all the WHM bells and whistles and And the VPS control panel is cool too.

I have to just remind myself that VPS is new to Surpass. And maybe all of us using it in time can help make the Surpass VPS one of the best Hosted VPS out there in time.

I love my VPS yes I do. Don't mean I won't complain when it acts up though as with anything. LaughLaughLaugh

Maybe you could find someone to share that dedi with you... It's your box, after all, so you could install vmware-server on it and make "3" virtual servers out of it...

True but I'm not yet into the hosting business side nor have someone to split the server with. Cause you need trust with someone and resource assurance. I'd rather pay for a VPS just because there is no need to give my own support, risk having people yell at me, etc. In a year or two I'll be ready, but right now, I'm not.

See, Icould have friends help, but the majority of my friends are not internet-type people. I mean this as they are the online shopping, MySpacing, and instant messaging types AT THE MOST. One guy that could, doesnt have paypal and I know would not want to anyways.

So, yeah, not much luck there... I 'll just go VPS. Hopefulyl all my settings on my dedicated server can be converted for VPS (all but OS and backup harddrive that is).

Yea that is a cool idea for the Dedi but if not ready I think you will be happy with the VPS. And yes the trust would have to be there. I'm the same in that area too.

I'm considering some things, cause I really love my Dedicated. I might end up hosting five people... but I don't quite know yet...

So, I'll host those 5 people to pay off the bill until I can maintain the costs myself. : / I just love my server Might look into that virtual program, so I'll be able to reserve resources for myself and for those hostees, thus not much of a worry.

Yeah.. the other John ... he's a vmware server expert. Could probably help you get it set up.....

Then you're right - not much to worry about resource wise (unless you get disk bound...).

Might be worth a try, at least for a month before you decide to kick it out...

Now, if you'd ever have had a look at that site we talked about, you might have made some $ from me....

John

Oh, I see, you might wanna rent some space... hmmm... if your interested, send some details via PM.

EDIT: Actually, I'll also start advertising around. Cause, there are quite a few people that would like hosting I know of, and rich people too. Heck, our local ISP sales hosting for $25/month for 100mb space and (I think) don't provide a control panel!

So, there is some good competition I can pull, having 2x160gb HDDs and 1,500gb bandwidth, as well as cPanel!
