http://www.surpasshosting.com/policies.php

On shared servers, there are resource limits. About the space and bandwidth, it helps that Surpass ha stheir own Datacenter, thus aren't reselling from another provider. They have just recently (in May 2006) increased their bandwidth and storage due to a new deal they have with a bandwidth provider. The storage was just an addition for the customers: [Big Changes] Bandwidth Increase!

So, the "catch" is resource limits, which match or beat the same policys of other hosts.

Quote:
In all fairness, we cannot allow one or two clients to use all of the system resources on a shared machine and have all other clients suffer because of it. Excessive CPU & memory usage by one or more clients causes extreme slowness in all areas: MySQL, Email, HTTP and more. If the CPU & memory usage by a few clients gets out of hand, all sites hosted on the machine will return errors and not be accessible in any way.

Average Server Resource Limits
Memory usage may not exceed 10% per domain/file/application
CPU usage may not exceed 20% per domain/file/application
Apache connections may not exceed 30 connections
15 MySQL maximum user connections allowed
350 emails per hour, per domain
Now, with a VPS or Dedicated server, you may push the limits all you wish, since those services give you exact amounts that are guarenteed.

If your uneasy, I'll just like to add I've been with Surpass Hosting and have never moved. I'm now on a dedicated, but started off with their "Pro" hosting plan, which was 10gb storage/100gb bandwidth for $15 back in the day.

PS, that is about a pineapple Oh, and I'm not an Surpass official, my special name color just means I'm in the "Surpass Fan" group, which is requestable via Mods.

Glad to hear it I'm also so mind boggled on how Surpass strives bring so much generousity, but I won't complain of course

Also, if you are concerned if this is overselling, it is. But not in the bad sense. When more storage, bandwidth, etc is needed for a server, they'll add it. In all my experience, every host does oversell, as not every client uses their quotas all at once, but only the good ones know how to manage and control overselling, such as Surpass I have yet ot experience any issues with their shared servers in such ways, that is just proof that they are doing the good overselling.

Now, I don't mean to act as though I'm praising Surpass as a god, I just want to help you and be truthfully honest, even if it does unintentually point towards Surpass's favor :P

I just cleared a ton of crap off of my desk... Ok, so I'm a packrat...

In My 2000, I paid 323/yr for a shared account with 3 domains. subdomains were extra $5/yr each. the document does not say how much bandwidth or storage I had... but I know it was TINY... like 500mb storage.

Glad there is Surpass and a new era in hosting, where most companies offer lower prices with more quotas and no charge on subdomains... some small hosting companies still do the opposite though *cough*my local ISP*cough*

I switched to Surpass a few months ago. I have a reseller account and my friend has a shared account. We're both happy (I'm pretty sure he is). Support is good, especially these forums. I've never seen or had complaints about downtime. So far, surpass has kept me very happy. We'll see what the future brings us!

That was a time when storage and hard drives weren't as cheap as they are today.

no kidding, I can buy a 300 GB HDD for the same price, if not less, than what I remember paying for 20/40 GB HDD. I wont go back farther, cause while I had a computer in the 1.5 GB HDD era, I wasnt doing the purchasing LaughLaughLaugh
