Thumbs down Whoa!! Why should I have to transfer registrars??

I was in the process of setting up a reseller account (Bronze, paid yearly, I have my own domain) and the top of the page has an option to transfer the domain from my registrar. The option is grayed out and I can not change it.

I do not want to move my domain from my current registrar, and I see no reason I should have to. Also why should I pay $15 for a transfer, that is more than I payed to set it up in the first place.

What the heck is going on here? I would like to setup my reseller account, but I am certainly not going to make surpass my registrar. Hosting they can do, but as a registrar they suck. They don't even have the ability let different people act in the different roles on the domain. Sure they can enter different names, e-mail addresses, ect, for the technical, billing, and administrative roles, but only one person can have an account and log in to make changes to the domain. That is a very basic function and breaks how domain registration has worked since Network Solutions was the only game in town.

Now what do I do??

I think you hit the wrong starting option. Take a look at the picture below:

You may have selected the second button rather then the third which is to use your existing domain rather then transfer your domain (the second button).

Try the process again.

Um... calm down. You do not have to transfer. It is just a option.

Than is exactly my problem. It IS NOT and option, it is preselected and can not be changed on the form.

Unless maybe I need to find another route to that form and they need to fix the one I was on. I noticed that the plan was also preselected and could not be changed. However, this i think is due to the fact that I got to the order form by clicking on a particular plan's "Order Now!" link.

How should I access an order form if not via the "Order Now!" links on the reseller plan pages?

=================================================

I think I found the problem-

Select a domain option:
Register New Domain - Self explanatory
Transfer My Existing Domain - implies I own a domain and am transfering from a different host
I will use My Existing Domain and update My Nameservers only. - implies I own my own nameservers and Surpass will not be doing DNS for me

The last option SHOULD be I will update the registrars nameserver information.

Hi,

The 3rd option to "use" rather than "transfer" your existing domain is the correct option for you.

It does not mean you have your own nameservers. Sorry for the confusion, it can mean different things to different people I guess.

Maybe it is time to review the wording. For every customer that comes forward how many are lost without a complaint? I know for a fact that one of my clients is now using surpass as their registrar days after purchasing the domain elsewhere. I did not understand why before, now I have a guess. This is also how I know that surpass can only attach a single account to a domain despite the domain having different people in different roles. It is the reason I was so touchy about this to begin with.

So if I personally have seen the verbiage used cause confusion twice, then what are the chances it may not be clear for other new potential resellers as well? After all if someone closes their browser at that point rather than raising a stink here, then you never know you just lost a customer.

Thank you for the help and clarification.

Ironically the way it is currently worded makes more technical sense to me. As for what you are suggesting makes me think you want them to tell people to update their registrars nameserver information... which is not what is wanted... "Update My (Your) Nameservers" makes much more sense to me

but i dunno, I guess it depends on if they want to use correct terminology, or use terminology that might make more sense to someone that doesnt understand it, while being technically incorrect.

I can't see a problem with the wording. I guess the third option could be improved, such as, 'I will use my existing domain and update the nameservers at the registrar.' But whenever I look at it, I read it as it's meaning is intended.
