Building CS Cart/ Moving from XCart, Australian ecommerce

Hi,
We are currently running an ecommerce (Xcart) site on an Australian Server. We plan to rebuild our site using CS Cart site and am considering signing with Surpass. I'd develop the site on a shared plan and then upgrade to vps or dedicated hosting once we go live here. We need speed and reliability.

A few questions:
  • Will the speed of our site be affected by the fact that the server is physically located in the USA and most of our customers are in Australia?
  • Any other Xcart/ CS Cart users here?
  • Does the cart require any sort on server side tweaking for optimium performance - do we need to ask surpass to do any "special tweaking" on our server to get our site running fast?
  • Are there any template/logo creators here -I'd like to source out the template design.
Thanks
Luthien

Just a few answers...

1 - speed. Do a tracert to 'www.surmunity.com' or 'www.wholebrainhost.com' (my site). See how many hops are involved. Check out "quinlanartscenter.org" (the museum in my signature) and see how their web-store loads for you down under...

2- never heard of them, but that's just me.
3 - servers are pretty tweeked, and if you need something that won't kill other users, support can help.
4 - A few. Depends on how complicated the template, though, as to who might bite!

Welcome to Surpass.

Thanks for the info ...and happy thanksgiving.
We'll signed up now and will see the site goes. I've been reading the forums and am impressed by tech support's feedback.
Your art museum site loads quickly - I had a wander thru ...very nice

That site was built with Joomla and Virtuemart.
