Your plans are ???

I am interested in changing host providers but I'm not sure which plan to look at here. I read this post 200GB Space? on your beginners forums and it would appear that whats posted may not be what is actually provided. Also when I click on the details tab for the different plans I get nothing in the way of details.

From what I gathered from the other post the site has been recently updated and may not reflect correct info. Which would explain why maybe the details tab don't work. If so I don't mind saying that makes me question changing over to surpass...not very encouraging. But hey....I understand "oops" happen and am not ready to rule you out just yet...I know I would be pissed if I went with what was posted and got something a fraction the size....so I figured I would clear that up first

All the other hosting providers tell me more information than I understand. But some of the basics I am concerned with are as follows...

MySQL database....how many am I allowed and is the size of it tied in with my total disk space or is there a set size limit I must maintain with it....ie one site said it can't be over 100 meg yet others say whatever size it is it just counts toward my allowed disk space.

Email accounts....how many am I allowed and is there a max amount of space each can use?

Uptime....What type of uptime do you have....ie I see some places tooting their horns about 99.xx% uptime....

Our basic needs are simple....we use VBulletin for our forums and our current bandwidth usage requirements have ranged from about 1GB to 5GB a month...we have 3GB of disk space that has proved to be efficient.....Where we ran into trouble with one potential host was MySQL Database size. Our current size is about 74 meg but has been as large as 135 meg (we like to keep old posts )....we don't really want to keep pruning our posts to keep the database smaller than 100meg.

So all that being said....does surpass have a plan I can look at that would meet our needs?

MySQL databases and email accounts are unlimited. They do count towards your overall space, but there are no individual limits. I believe Surpass says 99.9% uptime, I think it's somewhere int he TOS. When I had a shared account, I did get that, now I'm on dedicated servers, and get it as well.

As for the space on the accounts, I don't know if they've been upgraded. Kayla should see that soon here and let us know if those are the new sizes. I would imagine they are.

The only thing you would need to consider when running a forum is how much memory/cpu it uses. If you have a lot of active users on at the same time, there could be problems. Others who have run forums may be able to let you know more details on that.

Yeah, I said that as those sizes are a HUGE increase from the old ones, which were recently upgraded early 2006. I'd say it is pretty hard to create a typo on every package, but sometimes people (like me) get jumpy and play with ideas, but these could be real. Just wondering why no announcement yet... hm...

About your needs, as long as it follows by the TOS (like the "Resource" sector), then all should be good. Also, all features are unmetered. (shared accounts, however, have 10 addon/parked domains, where resellers+ have unmetered). You should be fine.

Also, there are no seperate limits (except for the amount of connections to mysql at any given time and emails sent hourly, see the TOS). Your main limits are just your Storage and Bandwdith (and possibly addon/parked domains, depending on what plan you get).

About the only thing I would worry about is "How Active" is your forums? If they're REALLY busy, you may find that a shared plan - and it's resource limits - won't be sufficient for you and you may end up looking at the dedicated plans.
