html coding, or front page, or...?
I was just wondering, do we need to know html, or can we use a program like Microsoft Front Page, or Macromedia Dreamweaver, or something of the sort for the site, or is there something like that integrated in the account?
I'm asking this question before buying an account, since I only know the basic of html, and wouldn't go far with it... Thanks. |

FrontPage and Dreamweaver basically make html pages. You can use either program, though I recommend using Dreamweaver, as frontpage is generally frowned upon.

I mean, using Dreamweaver in the way that if I save something in Dreamweaver, it automatically saves it on the site. And so, if I add a page, and add the link to the page to the home index, and save, it will both change the index page on the site, and add the new page.
I -think- I mean having ftp access? Not have to do the page in Dreamweaver, copy the html, and then paste the html... |

Yes, you can set up Dreamweaver to FTP into the server, and upload any new pages that you have made changes to. I use Dreamweaver myself for some pages, but then use a separate FTP program to upload them.

For now, that was my question. I'll see when I get my account information; I'll be able to rummage around a bit more, and see if there's something that comes up.
Thanks ![]() |

Might I suggest that you can also start with a *free* WYSIWYG development and then later if you can:
1) purchase the commercial and more powerful systems 2) learn how to program a web site, yes, it is all text and simple text editors will do nVu, is free and has the following: * in the My Sites pane on the left you can manage several sites and their page including FTP uploads and a Publish Tool Button like DW and FP * view and edit based on WYSIWYG, Tags, source text, preview mode * integrated spell checker * insert PHP code * insert widget [includes calendar] and other downloadable templates From the menu>tools you have access to * Markup Cleaner - fixes formating and other issues * Validate HTML - passes your work to W3.org for validation * CSS Editor - handles Style Sheets [give your users a choice of how they view the site such as light on dark [white/black] or different text / background colors by just creating different CSS files] The last version of FrontPage I owned is '98 and would never buy DW. Since I am a programmer, I will build my basic site with nVu [get the look and feel fast] and then use various text editors and FTP to manage the site. Also nVu runs on Linux and Windows.
