remote database connections allowed?

I am looking for a hosting plan that will allow me to connect to the DB remotely. I have desktop software such as FedEx or UPS shipping software that needs to connect to the DB to fetch customer shipping data. Currently I have a local server that I use for this, but I use paypal to download the information and want to use a remote host to save headaches. I currently have godaddy and they do not allow remote DB connections Can I do this with the shared hosting plans here??

Thanks

typically not allowed, but I'd message support / pre-sales just to explain what you're trying to do.

They're allowed, just CPanel seems to be flakey at keeping the access. You have to explicity allow an IP access through CPanel's MySQL page. Support may remove remote access from an IP if it's being hit hard.

Thanks H. I had to ask support a while back. Maybe they opened them by default now?

Where abouts is this in the cpanel under the mysql and then where it says Access Hosts:192.168.1.%
localhost
Host (% wildcard is allowed):

the fedex software uses a ip address where the DB is the username, password and table name to connect.

Thanks

You have to add the external ip (whatismyipaddress.com) of the computer the program is running on to the access hosts list.
