Transferring to Surpass

My name is Lauren and I own a site that is currently being hosted on http://www.elixant.com/ Unfortunately, we were just told the news that the hosting site will cease operations in March. So naturally, my friend and I must beging looking for new hosting and we were recommended Surpass from a few people. So far, t we definitely like this site the best, but we are worried about transferring all of our stuff over from the old hosting to surpass.

Our domain, www.perfect-ending.com , is mainly used for the vBulletin board that we own and run. Nothing else is used on it, except for misc. uploading of images and what not. All of which we are not too worried about. What are very concerned with is, will we be able to transfer everything over for the vBulletin board, including the database and what not so that we do not lose anything and all the work, which has been a lot, we have done? Or will we have to just restart the entire board?

Oh, and the domain name perfect-ending.com was purchased through godaddy and the hosting is through elixant. Anyway, yeah, I have not purchased a package through Surpass yet because my friend and I wanted to know what we should be prepared for first. I really appreciate any help and answers we can get.

-Lauren

Welcome Lauren...

I was looking through elixant.com and noticed all their sites are hosted with Cpanel, this is a good thing. Surpass can transfer your Cpanel account from elixant to Surpass's Servers.

As far as what plan you should choose: I was unable to get into your forum and see how busy your forum is. Regardless, I would contact the Help Desk (24 hours... you don't need a username and password just an email account) and let them know exactly what you need/ are looking for. You can submit a ticket at http://desk.surpasshosting.com

You could also provide them a link to this thread if you don't want to reiterate everything.

Good Luck

-Brandon

Okay, thanks. But one more quick question, if the cPanel account is transferred over from elixant to surpass, does that mean the database for the forum would go with it as well so that nothing is actually lost with the forum? It's not open yet, but we were planning on opening it soon until we got the bad news from elixant about their closing. We are just worried about losing everything we have added to the forum such as hacks, threads, schemes, etc.

Well, to get a better idea, the cPanel backup that will be created at your host (via the cPanel 'full' backup option). Which packs up all files, folders, databases, emails, addon/parked domain informations, all cPanel customizations, and other. Thus, your new Surpass account should be setup with all the resources aquired from your old host via the cPanel backup that was transfer and imported into your Surpass account.

I hope this helps

When Surpass uses the special administrative "move account" feature, yes - they move the whole lot. Everything. You do have to be patient though. It can take a few days. You can either leave your site up as it is, and not change the DNS until surpass is finished, or, put up a "we're moving page" (plain index.html) on the old site...

Be very careful about hacks/mods to forum software - these are a huge cause of security breaches.

Regards, and welcome to Surpass!
