Question What do I need?

Hello everyone! A friend of mine recommended Surpass since I'm in the market for a new server, but I'm not sure what would be best for me. I run five websites from my current server, which is from GoDaddy. It's a Virtual Dedicated Server with 20 GB of storage and (I think?) 1500 GB of transfer for $80/month. Unfortunately, downtimes are frequent and their customer service is horrible!!! So I need to switch.

I'm looking at the Bronze Reseller plan from Surpass and B50 plan from 3essentials (http://www.3essentials.com/multiple-...b-hosting.asp). Obviously, the Surpass plan is less expensive, but as I understand it, it's also shared (?). I'm not sure on that part. My main site has a forum, so I defintely need some kind of Database action going on... Also, with GoDaddy and my previous host, I've been using Plesk control panel. I don't know much about Cpanel. Is it easy to adapt to? How does it compare? Etc.?

To tell you a bit about my site, it's a fansite for a musical artist featuring a very active forum, video and audio downloads and a bunch of other stuff. We get about 200,000 individual visits a month, and we'll definitely need all the bandwidth we can get.

Basically, I don't know if it would be best to go with Surpass or 3essentials. I'd really appreciate if someone could recommend what would be best for me, and why. I understand that this is a Surpass forum, but everyone seems really nice so I'm hoping for an unbiased response. Neither of them could ever be as bad as GoDaddy, anyway!

Hmmm, the 3essentials are windows servers, surpass only does linux (unix or whatever it's called).

Personally I'd recommend you go with a dedicated server then you'd have room to grow and also not affect anyone else on the shared server you would be on. The cheaper dedi's are about the same price that you pay now, but the full specs haven't been posted yet. If you went with one of those the machines it could be upgraded and you when you got more visitors and your needs increased.

And just FYI - ALL reseller plans are shared.

At Surpass, Reseller plans are on reseller only servers. Not too many people can make this claim. So, yes you are on a shared server, but the server contains only other resellers and their sites/customers.

The theory here is that if you're a reseller, you'll be more conscious of who you give accounts to.

One thing you forgot to mention, Windows OS for Servers is purchasable for Dedicated servers only, and is a additional $30/month fee.

This fee is only due to the license cost of the software, where as Linux i sat no charge and standard for all servers.

AM, did you have any other questions about Surpass?

With 200K visits a month, you should start out with VPS or go dedicated in order to smoothly run your site and keep visitors happy with its speed.

What forum are you using, by the way?
