Help Please!

Hi, I own a site with my friend that is currently being hosted on http://www.electedhosting.com/ Unfortunately, we were just told the news that the host we are currently with is going in a different direction and will be turned into an adult webhost, which is something we don't want our site connected with. So I started to look for new host and a friend told me about Surpass and we both liked this host the best but we are really worried about transferring all of our stuff over from the old hosting place to surpass.

Our domain, http://tvrevere.com/ , is mainly used for an Invision 2.0 board that we own and run. We also have like 5 other MySQL Databases that run a couple of wordpress blogs, an image gallery and a wiki . Now what we are concerned with is, will we be able to transfer everything over for the board and everything else, including the databases and what not? Or will we have to just restart everything over? The reason we're worried that it'll be a problem is because our current host has MySQL 4.1.21 and PHP 4.4.4 and we noticed that the versions you're using are newer..

so, what would we have to do to get everything over?

If someone could possibly help me out that'd be great!

It looks like that host uses cPanel. Surpass can transfer all that over for you.
If you like just contact sales from the help desk and let them know what all you want to do and they can help you get all setup before placing an order for a plan and account.

Best of luck to you.

Well, I didn't vote for their hosting... (lol)

Anyways, on to your questions...

1. All those elements will be fine, as long as it doesn't cause large CPU loads, due ot the "good neighbor" policy of Surpass Hosting. However, assuming you didn't have issues with the old host, you'll be fine.

2. About the transfer, this can be done for free by the support staff (apon request via helpdesk ticket). However, your old host needs to have provided you with a cPanel and/or WHM for this. This is because they do a direct cPanel -> cPanel transfer (from your old host to the new account, replacing cpanels).

3. The transfer mentioned in #2 transfers all cPanel configurations (FTP and email accounts, subdomains, etc) as well as all files, folders, mail, databases, and other. Thus, it is like the only difference is that your on a different server, under a different provider.

4. The software versions vary from server to server. The ones you specify are supported as "standard" with all plans. You may be refering to the "PHP 5" you've seen, but Surpass just has that paired with PHP 4. Thus, as a standard for all accounts, .php files use PHP 4 codec while the .php5 files use PHP 5 codec. So, there should be no problem with the move, as those software versions are supported. If any problem(s) arrive, just send in a ticket to support.

Now, how would you got about doing this transfer? Here's some easy steps:
+ Purchase the plan your interested in.
+ Await for the Welcome Email (which has the login information, etc, for the new account)
+ Once you receive that email, it means your account is active and accessible. This can take anywhere from an hour to 24 hours, apon them receiving your processed payment.
+ Go to http://desk.surpasshosting.com (helpdesk) and submit a ticket requesting the transfer. Be sure ot include all information that applies, as well as a link to the full backup generated by your old cpanel account, or give them access to the cPanel so they may manually do so and thus begin the transfer.
+ This process will take up to 24 hours, or less (usually less).
+ They'll give you the "Ok" when it is done, so keep your eyes on that support ticket!
+ And, bam! You've got everything from your old account ot the new one (plus more?)!

REMEMBER to change tvrevere.com's nameservers informatin to those specified in the welcome email, so they point to your new hosting account, and not the old one.

I hope I could help. Feel free to ask anymore questions

1. You can create a full backup yourself, and host it somewhere or so. But support is the only one that can restore the cPanel full backup files. If you have room in your old host's account, then you could just saye it onto the accoutn and give support the link to it.

-or-

2. You can provide support with the login information that that cPanel account os they they may then conduct a direct transfer. So, unlike the first option, this allows you to have them deal with it while you just provide the information/instruction.

I recommend going with the 2nd option, as it would be less of a stress on you. However, be sure to check your new account once they okay that the transfer ins complete, just incase something slipped out of the transfer.

Hope all goes well!

When I moved our site over just recently I went into the control panel and clicked on the backups icon. I then told it to create a full backup...link at top....with that backup Surpass was able to setup my site on their server. We lost nothing and all our email settings, ftp settings, files, everything was restored and ready to go. I had a couple problems with a few smilies for our forums for some reason but it was easy to fix....even for me ....

The only reason I had to do the backup was because when Surpass tried to access it they couldn't for some reason. If they can connect to your current cpanel then they will most likely be able to do everything for you.

The ONLY other thing I had to do (besides the support tickets) was when they were done with setting up my site I had to go to where our domain name is registered and change the name servers to point to the ones Surpass provided me. VERY VERY PAINLESS if you don't count the needless worring you will do while they move everything for you

On a side note the passwords for my account on the old host carried over when they set up my site on their server so the ones they told me in the email with my account information didn't work. No biggie....in fact it was great because I didn't have to learn new ones...hehehe

All in all....we have been pleased....our site seems alittle faster and I don't get the daily "page not found" errors I got with our old host.

Make the leap and you will be happy you did.....
