Server distance. Is it a large difference ?

Greetings!

Afther a long search, I accidently discoverd Surpasshosting. The amount of storage and bandwith that you get is huge for such a low-price. And I heard some great comments about this company.

Now, sadly enoufg, I live in Europe/Belgium, and 50% of my website visitors and users are from Europe. I want to garantee fast-downloads and uploads to my users, so would the distance between Belgium and the USA slow down all this ?

Also: Is it possible to download some sort of demo file of 5mb or so, to test this ?

Thank you very much!

I don't think it should be any different than to our west coast, maybe faster. Here is a 38 Mb file on how to play the piano that you can use to check your speed.

Well, I can't find any contract or agreement that you need to accept when you buy hosting at surpass. Anyone that can provide me with a link ?

Is it possible to set some sort of bandwith limit on certain folders or something alike? So that when I give a friend his own ftp dir to upload stuff, he doesn't start using all of my bandwith ?

Thanks!

There is Space and there is Bandwidth.

For space, you can limit the amount of space allocated to an FTP account. In cPanel's FTP Manager when you set up the FTP user account, it creates a directory under public_html for the account. I think it defaults to unlimited space, but if you type in 10, it will limit the space to only 10Mb.

For Bandwidth, I think you can do this if you have a reseller account, and set your friend up with a separate domain and account. For shared plans, I'm not so sure how you manage the bandwidth.

With the increased space & bandwidth on the current plans, you will probably more likely be constrained by how much server resources are used by your account. If they exceed the TOS amounts, then your account could be suspended.
