Storing MP3 for a flash MP3 player

Hi there,

Would you have a problem with me hosting mp3 files of unsigned, non commercial, LEGAL music?

I run a site for local unsigned bands and have their permission to host their music.

What i would like to do is have different playlist files for each band so visitors can then stream the music with a flash mp3 player.

It is unlikely to get many simultaneous listeners, maybe 3 at max.

cheers

As long as your you have permission like you state and you do not violate the resource policy then everything should be fine. This would be no different than hosting podcast files on your site... and playing them through an embedded flash player.

BTW which plans are you looking into (shared/reseller/vps/dedi)?

I'd probably go for the power shared package, it is unlikely to use more than 200mb of space.

My current website in development is www.phonicflux.com which is hosted with QIQ but they said hosting mp3 files on there for a flash player is against their terms as it would be like a file distribution site

I would probably just keep my website on qiq and use the surpass site as a place for the bands to upload their songs to me (moderated of course) and then link the flash player to it.

All seems fine, we aren't calling you a liar, as there are people with legal mp3 sites

Just be sure that this is done efficiently, and does not abuse server resources. Not storage or bandwidth, as that is a set standard of your package and you can use all of it if needed, just in terms of CPU and memory usage is the prime concern.
