combined dedi's
i'm potentially planning to host an MMORPG server. it recommends hosting different zones on different dedicated servers. my question is: is there a way to purchase two or three dedicated servers under one plan? i have a feeling that this is something that i should send a support ticket too, but i think i've bombarded eman with enough questions for one night.
here's some detail of what i'm thinking about: the reason for having separate dedi's is basically for processor/ram/hdd space. the separate boxes will help distribute the resource demand of hosting the game server. now, the reason for this proposed combination-dedi-plan-thing has more to do with the bandwidth. seeing that each dedi provides 1TB, is there a way to make all three combined limit at 3TB instead of 1TB each? The reason for this is that some zone servers may be more demanding than others at different times, and it'd be hard to say which ones and when. Having all three under one bandwidth limit would be nifty in this case, not to mention that if one server goes over the 1TB limit and gets suspended while another one is still up having only used .05TB... well, that'd just really suck i understand that surpass offers unmetered connections for a raised price on the dedi's per month. it'd be REALLY nice if i can purchase three dedi servers and have them under one unmetered bandwidth plan. Though this may seem a bit unfair, since it's practically 30Mbps unmetered, the three dedi's would be interwoven with bandwidth demands anyway - it'd just really bite to have to pay the unmetered-upgrade-fee thrice. The whole system would be messed up if one server was disfunctional. .. please? |

well ... Eman would be the best person to answer that question... so you should probably hit him up again.

Well, I have multiple dedi's, as do a few other people here
Im not sure what you mean by "under 1 plan". The way it works here is that there is a control panel specifically for Dedicated Servers, that contains everything but what servers you currently have, including the specs, it has daily, weekly, and monthly bandwidth graphs, and other misc things. But see how it works is that every month you are simply invoiced for each dedicated server, and you can choose to pay the invoices together, or 1 by 1 (for example if you need to use multiple credit cards) As for the bandwidth, the servers are typically connected to a 10mbps hub/router i believe, so you are capable of using beyond the 4mbps that your server is allocated, if it so needs it at a certain time, so for example, and im not 100% on the math on this, but if during your high periods you use 8mbps for like maybe 6 days a month, and in your slow periods you use only 1mbps, you wont be charged overages (and again, youd want to check the specifics, its based on the 95th percentile theory, there is a better description elsewhere on here im sure). So unless you plan on using atleast 4mbps constantly? i dunno anyways, im sure you can work something out with eman |

I think what he is referring to is the current price of unmetered servers.... from what I gather he'd like to pay for unmetered bandwidth on all three servers as if it was one server...
... it is one of those special requests.. and yes Eman is the one that you need to speak to.. ![]()

Well, as unreasonable as that sounds, unmetered doesnt mean unlimited, it simply means you are connected to a 10, or 100, or whatever and can use as much up to the maximum port speed i believe. so either 1 or 3 servers, you're still not using more than what the port can handle? the only difference is that with 3 servers you are more likely to take full advantage of said bandwidth

this is what i gather from the many questions that i asked eman: if you purchase a dedi that is metered, you may still use the entire port speed at 10mbps, however you are limited to your bandwidth (1TB/mon) and you're server will be shutdown if you past this limit. 10mbps will use up the 1TB in a matter of minutes. However, if you purchased unmetered, you'll be running on the same 10mbps port, and your bandwidth will not be limited (so long as it's reasonable - probably that 95% thing)
well, for the sake of simplifying this ordeal, let's assume that metered is anything below 1TB/month bandwidth and unmetered is everything above and beyond. say i have three servers, each interwoven to run the same game, but different maps are located on different servers for faster gameplay. Now, if server A uses 2TB of bandwidth on the first month, and server B and C use only .5 TB each, i'd have to purchase unmetered for server A, and server B and C will be fine. That would be a total of 3TB of all three servers. However, since these types of games are unpredictable, say the following month, server B reaches 2TB and server A and C are down at .5TB. Even though i am still only using 3TB as a customer, since each server has it's own plan, this would mean that i would be penalized for going over the 1TB limit on server B, while my unmetered plan on server A was wasted. So you see, it's difficult to predict. So i was wondering if there is a way to put three dedi's under one bandwidth (not necessarily unmetered because i know that's a bit unfair). ![]() |

once again this is totally a question for Eman... have you asked him yet?
and as for your first paragraph, the 95th percentile is not applied to unmetered servers(per a previous conversation with eman).
