Which Surpass Dedicated Plan Do I Need?
I am currently on a shared plan (sh95) and am having to upgrade to a dedicated plan. I want to know what is the minimum dedicated plans available, allowing room for growth. Here is some information about our usage:

Personally, i'd start with a dual core unit, with 1gb of ram. If that does not carry it for you, another gig of ram would boost it tremendously.

Being that we are just now becoming too big for a shared plan, wouldn't a single-CPU series be a good upgrade (like the SP12 - 2.4 GHz, 1 GB (upgradable to 2 GB, 2 x 120GB, 1.5TB)? I would think that would give us plenty of room to grow, wouldn't it? |

That would likely be a good start. I was just thinking of the future expansion. If you double your site, this might be too small a server.

Only you know what you can afford. Personally, I would start off small, and upgrade as you need to. If you need to keep your monthly payment low, but can come up with some cash upfront, you can buy down the price. Hurts up front, but it'll work to your benefit in the long run.
As an example, you can start off with the SP9. You can add the 2nd HD for $200, and an additional 512MB of RAM for $150 (?). You basically wind up with the equivalent of the SP12, but are paying $80/mo instead of $110/mo. You'll save $30/mo. You'll recoup your investment in less than a year, and will then be saving money every month thereafter. If you find that you need more horsepower, I believe they let you take your upgrades with you for the new server. Not saying that this is the only way to go, but that's what I did, and I'm not regretting it for a second. ![]() Good luck whichever route you take. John
