the last netbunch refugee needs info

OK. So I should have left netbunch ages ago but laziness prevented me...

A couple of questions to try to help me decide before they pull the plug in 2 weeks time.

My site is currently hosted with netbunch and I'm using cpanel. How easy is it to move everything lock stock and barrel? Can someone at surpass help me do that or do I need to recreate everything from scratch?

I use a number of things to create and manage the content on my site: Blogger, coranto (perl CMS), SMF forum are the main ones. Anything there that will cause me a problem on surpass? In particular I would not like to lose my SMF forum, members or posts (I've already been through that experience with netbunch)

My domain name (thankfully) is held in the uk with a separate company so I guess it's just a question of dns changes once I know my new IP address and a wait...

I use about 10 mysql databases on my current site. Do I get that number on a shared hosting plan?

Thanks in advance for any help. It's kind of urgent as I beleive I have 2 weeks notice to find a new host. My own fault really.

Since your previous host is cPanel, support can move everything for you once you sign up. There should be nothing that would mess up your current scripts. Once thing you will need to remember is that on surpass, servers run with phpsuexec (apache is running as cgi). This means that permissions on files such as 666, and folers at 777 are not required, and will not work. Just put them to the normal permissions, and your scripts will work fine. Also, anything in your htaccess files that modify php will just need to be moved to a php.ini file in that directory.

Once you are ready to transfer, all you have to do is update the nameservers.

Databases are unlimited.

While your waiting for the account to get active - Just wanted to give my welcome as well - a great bunch of folk here at Surpass. And just to answer your other questions - you will have no problem running the programs you mentioned or with running into SQL database limitations.

Well so far so good.

Netbunch/WHP have gone out of business. This is a good thing as WHP seem to have a track record in buying up hosting companies only to see them fold several months later with a trail of dissatisfied customers behind. I guess that's just symptomatic of the cut-throat world of hosting. It's kinda sad that the original company I hosted with, dr2.net, is besmirched by being connected with these people - albeit down the line.

Anyway that's hopefully in the past.

Had an excellent experience here so far. It's like the old days with dr2.net. Helpful, responsive support and tickets/support calls actually answered.

I thought it was going to be easy to move as my site at netbunch used cpanel - same as here. Turned out netbunch/whp just let the cpanel licence expire so I had no access to it. Everything had to be done the manual way. Fortunately, I was able to access phpmyadmin and reclaim my data but it was all more difficult than it had to be.

I'd like to thank everyone for the welcome and am looking forward to many years of happy (and safe) hosting here.
