Question A few questions before i join.

Few Questions for you guys,

I have a friend who has been with you guys for awhile, she talked me out of going to pow web, and now after im reading their reviews, im very happy i didn't.

I have been out of the web design game for some years now, getting back into it because i need to make a portfolio site so i have a few questions.

What exactly is CPanel? Do i log in and use it through your site? Or is it a personal program i use like ftp software? Do i have to purchase the client to run it? Any bit of info would be great.

Second, in signing up its asking for my nameserver1 and 2. There are already defaults there, but i want to make sure i put in the right thing. I'm buying the domain through your site and having you host it.

Finally, many other hosting sites mention domain security protection to protect you from spammers, identity theft, and other things. Is this a service you guys offer as well, or is that just bologne?

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

Thanks for posting!

cPanel is a control panel that is web based. It is free. This is how it works: Click here

When you sign up, the defaults are fine. You can change them later after you get the welcome email, only takes a few minutes.

Security protection... well, for the most part it's a marketing gimmick to be honest. Security in the long run is up to you as far as identity theft. However with spam, we do provide tools to combat spam in your inbox.

Are you talking about Whois protection when you mention "domain security" ?

Appreciate the quick reply.

This was taken directly from pow webs site:

Quote:
Every time you register a domain name, your name, address and phone number are entered into a public database that can be viewed and used by anyone. This exposes your personal information to spammers, telemarketers and other undesired third parties.

BizLand's Domain Privacy allows you to register a domain without having to expose your personal information to the public.

Here's how it works:
  • Your domain registration information, including the Administrative, Billing and Technical contacts are masked with generic information within public WHOIS databases. You still retain full ownership and control of your domain name.
  • Requests to view your domain's contact information are filtered and forwarded to you.
  • You decide whether to respond.
Purchase Domain Privacy for your domain name(s) today, and protect your from unwanted spam, identity theft, fraud, stalkers and unintended identity disclosure.
So i was trying to figure out if that was a scam.

Oh, no that's not a scam. We have that too.. when you order the domain you will notice that you can choose a protection option.

Every domain registrar gives you the option to purchase whois protection if they charge, while some offer it for free. So it's not a scam at all.

Namecheap.com offers free whois protection with every domain name. Godaddy charges $2.99 per domain (at least I think that's what it was at one point.)
