Unable to Access Main Site

I was planning on buying a shared hosting package from Surpass Hosting. However, currently, I am unable to access the main Surpass Hosting website (except through an online proxy).

However, I am able to access the Surpass domains site, and this forum, obviously.

I was able to access the site just a couple of days ago, and that's hopefully just a temporary problem on my end. I was worried about whether I would be able to sign up using a proxy if the problem persists, or if signing up would cause me to have the same problem on my account when it becomes active.

Hopefully, this can be sorted fairly quickly, as my current payment with my current host ends on Sunday and I want to switch over before then.

So, if anyone can help or give an insight, that'd be great.

Well, your IP block is possibly banned on the main Surpass server (probably by nothing of your own doing as I'll try to explain). Surmunity and I'm assuming Surpass Domains are on separate servers, so it's not affected. If you register, you should not be banned on the server your account will be on, because it will again be separate from the Surpass Hosting server where the website is.

IP blocks get banned when someone with a rotating IP address tries to abuse the server... Either by a DDOS or, as can be the case with the main Surpass server, sending in multiple fraudulent registrations. It often catches innocent victims in the crossfire, who have done nothing, but their current IP falls within the block. This seems to happen most often when you don't have a static IP from your internet service provider. Of course, I can't tell whether or not this is the case. It's speculation of what a possible cause might be. As far as I know, Surpass does not regularly ban IP blocks, only when it's especially necessary.

If you can register through a proxy, it should not affect your actual hosting at all. Your account will be on a separate server and as long as you aren't blocked from the Surpass network (which you aren't if you can get here) then you shouldn't have a problem. The issue that may arise is if you need to submit help desk tickets, and you will have to access this part of the site to do so: https://desk.surpasshosting.com/

What you can do is submit a ticket to find out a better reason why you are having problems accessing the Surpass website. This community is mostly user-to-user, even though more staff are showing up every day (look out for the guys in the green... the rest of us are just customers, though the ones of us in dark blue, pink, orange or in my case, white are mods so we help out around here when we can)... You can probably get some tips to try and find out whether or not it is just a temporary problem on your computer and how to try and solve it (clearing your cache, maybe trying to do a tracenet... or something else)... I'm not particularly good at expressing that sort of thing. So I'll just try to stick with answering your question that you should be able to sign up through a proxy and it should not affect your account in any way. You should be able to access it like normal, and you probably won't have much of a reason to go to the Surpass site after you register, except perhaps to get to the help desk.

Well, I do have a static IP... so that's odd...

Anyway, I'm able to access the Desk, so everything should be fine. If for whatever reason it hasn't sorted itself out be tomorrow or Saturday, I'll just go ahead and sign up using a proxy.

Thanks for the quick response.

The reason your IP address was blocked was because a whole range of IPs happened to be blocked. So anytime your IP changed it would still be in that range. We've removed that block and you should be fine now

Still can't get on. the connection keeps timing out.

Although, it's no biggie really. I've bought an account, and I can access the desk and client bit, so that's fine.

Maybes they simply do not want / need any customers...

I asked in the dedicated about this and it is ignored.

Neil, what kind of comment is that? Surpass wants (and has) customers, but sometimes IPs have to be blocked in order to limit the abuse that a server gets from spammers and "hackers".

www.surpasshosting.com works fine for me and probably for most other people. You probably won't get a response in the Dedicated Server area of the forum because it has nothing to do with Dedicated Servers, and not a lot of people frequent that forum who don't have dedi's. If you are looking for a staff response, this is a user-to-user forum, and you will have to submit the question to the help desk if you wish support to help you immediately troubleshoot why you can't connect to the website. Otherwise, staff members browse the forum on their own time and are not obligated to respond to help requests placed through here.

Unfortunatley Rai it is a true one, if you reduce your market coverage then you reduce your potential customer base but, I am far more worried about why you may be implying that anyone who cannot all of a sudden these past couple of days see / browse / purchase / renew from surpasshosting.com would be spammers or hackers who are abusing servers.

The post in the dedicated area is because that is the area I was in whilst finalising research about the immediate things I would need to do with a couple of dedicated's and usually there are enough browsers of that area to pick up a reply.

Thankfully I have enough of a sense of fun to have had a little chuckle at part of your reply, submitting a question to the help desk indeed, most likely you would suggest using the support link at the top of this page, the one going to http://www.surpasshosting.com/support.php or simply login on http://my.surpasshosting.com

the help desk is at http://desk.surpasshosting.com

Different IP than the main site, I think it's a different server
