Dedicated or VPS?
Okay...
I've been planning on getting a dedicated server thing for a while now, but things kept coming up and stuff and yeah... So now I think I can finally get one in the up coming months... The problem is I don't know which one I should get, or if I should just get a VPS... I think I might just start off with a VPS and go for a Dedicated later (because I need cPanel, and I can afford the server, but with cPanel it makes me a bit uncertain about paying for it all, but if I pay the setup fee, then I wouldn't worry about the price, except for the first month...) I have $80 a month I know I can waste, and if I don't spend money on my unneeded wants (like preordering things on amazon that come out later on) which allow me to waste $120 - $160 a month for a dedicated server or VPS. I'm not really sure what a good dedicated server for my purposes would be. Most of it would be low traffic blogging sites, graphic sites (like portfolios), and yeah... I'm looking as the SP2, SP10, SP13, and SP6 servers... (unless surpass is planning on having a sale soon?) So what would you recommend... A VPS or which one of the above... But I do have a few questions: I'm planning on keeping my resellers and get a dedicated or VPS sometime soon. If I have something.com and have it hosted on the Dedi/VPS, can bleh.something.com (a sub-domain) be hosted on the Reseller (like can I modify the nameserver file thing to have sub-domains go elsewhere?) What flavor of Linux is recommended? I have experience with Ubuntu, but I'm not sure how great of a web server it is... I know a lot of people use CentOS, but I've never tried a similar thing... And most importantly, if I get a dedicated server, can I send in stickers and decorations for Surpass to put on the server? Thanks for your time... |

I love that... "Most importantly, can surpass put my stickers on it??". How cool.
Anyway, just about ANY dedicated server is going to be superior to a VPS... but VPS includes Cpanel. So, VPS 3, or a dedicated (SP4) if you can afford the extra.

I originally thought it was, but then I read somewhere online that it's not enough to handle the growing of scripts and how instense they're becoming... (although I don't plan on using anything major except for Wordpress and possibly phpBB or SMF or PunBB (with at most 10 people online at the same time) which probably isn't that big of a deal for a dedicated server, but I hope that it will grow as time goes on and that the server will be able to handle it...) |
