Smile [Answered] A few questions please

Hi, I have a few questions before I move over to surpass.

Currently I am hosting one fansite, it's not that big, and I only get about 200 visitors (or less) a day, and most of the site content is informational html/text and there's one photo gallery (coppermine). I search through the forum, and there was one topic about coppermine causing a high cpu usage, so I'm kind of worry whether this will be a problem or not? My image size doesn't exceed 900x900 pixels, and usually, there's no more than 10 people viewing the gallery at the same time.

Also, I have many smaller websites (fanlistings, to be specific) which uses mySQL database. I'm using this application call Enthusiast, which uses only 1 mySQL database, so the 10+ fanlistings that I have will share that database, therefore I won't need to make a new database for each fanlisting..( sorry if this sounds confusing) so will this contribute to the CPU usage or any other problems?

I'm fairly a newbie about what exactly is CPU usage because I've only been with one host so far, and they don't seem to mention anything about it. Is it similar to bandwidth?

So overall, my website will only consists of a coppermine image gallery, no more than 10 mySQL databases, overall visitors would be around 500 (or less) per day. So would this be alright with the share hosting Power plan? (Sorry about my english grammar, it's not my native language

I've never used Coppermine, but I think probably what was causing big server load was a spam issue. So long as your up-to-date with upgrades and patches, you shouldn't have an issue.

Fanlistings aren't much of a server load at all with their databases (unless you've got a whole bunch of super huge ones, maybe), I've hosted more than a fair number and never had an issue with server load from them.

Sounds like you'd be fine for a shared package. Worst case, if the package you purchase isn't enough to handle your needs, you can always upgrade -- and Surpass will let you know if there is a need for that if it arises.

Like ceo suggested, a shared plan will be fine for you. I'm currently have a shared plan and I've had multiple sites that used both coppermine and enthusuast3, so its OK. If anything Surpass will contact you if you do go over the limit. =) Good luck!

Yes. The consensus is that you should be fine. If you need more resources, you could always upgrade to a full RESELLER account (even if you don't resell anything). There are fewer accounts on reseller servers, so your impact would be much smaller there.

That was me up there, lol..thank you for the quick reply oh, but I have one more question, I was reading some reviews online (and most of them were quite old, so I don't fully base my decisions on them) but there was something about disabling PHP things... so I was wondering if it would affect anything because a lot of my web content uses php. Does this disabling affect only certain php scripts?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if you are worried that Surpass with disable a PHP script of yours, I'm sure it would only be because the script could have a security issue that might be a problem to other customers on the server. Other then that, I never heard of such a thing.

They might be referring to things such as Register Globals being turned off, or allow_url_fopen being turned off or some such thing... which they should be turned off.

The biggest problem with really old scripts is with Register Globals being turned off because they try to reference Form variables with just a simple variable name like $varname instead of the proper $_POST['varname'] or $_GET['varname'], depending on the Form's method attribute.

oh, ok, thank you.
Well I was going to sign up, but at the total page it said:

(This Month Pro-Rated 29 days) $4.68

so my total is $4.68 and it said $60.00 will be due on the next renewal date: 01/01/2008

so I just want to make sure, that I have to only pay $4.68 now and then $60 at the next renewal date? I thought I'd have to pay the $60 right away unless I'm missing something

You pay $4.68 now, and $60 on the renewal date. This way, Surpass keeps track of all billing dates. It's either the first of the month, or the first of the year, depending on the cycle you're on.
