most often than not most standalone forums and cms are fine with the hosting packages youll find on the internet provided they have the neccessary requirements. it is usually the hacks/mods/bridges poorly written added to these "scripts" that cause the issue. the thing i didnt like about joomla when i tested it was the difficulty in finding an appropriate bridge without expense and with that expense no communities to support them and to keep up with updates to complementary softwares. I found mambo to be a bit more supportive in that regard. Im not making a sales pitch for mambo here... if you do have warnings from your existing host perhaps check into issues that may have arisen from other users of your add ons that may tend to cause spikes.

I didn't have any warnings with my previous host - just nothing but downtime and awful technical support.
