Currently on a Power Shared plan and looking for VPS
Seems like the VPS is the way for me to go but I thought I'd ask before getting the budget lined up.
We are currently using a Shared Power plan for our data and basic site. However our contract has ended with our current host and we are looking to move. The problem with us just using the shared server is the download speed for the end user. It's just plain slow. For our company site we need much faster speeds than we are getting on the shared server. I don't think we really need a dedicated server, though our new site hasn't actually been built just yet. Seems like it'll be mostly static HTML with a handful of PHP and Flash thrown in. The podcast and sample media files are the high volume parts that take forever. Our video news clips are only about 8MB but still seem like an eternity to download on my 5MBs cable connection. So does a VPS sound more like what we are going to need? If we stay with Surpass for this, would we be able to migrate our current shared plan over to the VPS? What kind of speeds will be seen to the end user for a VPS as compared to a shared plan? Thanks! |
