UK User considering Surpass

Hi Guys and Gals...(and those who are not sure yet!)

My son is at University in the UK studying "Digital Screen Arts" and plans to set up a web site hosting his portfolio of work produced during his 3year course. The material is short videos (4-10mins) digital still photographs and documents. Hopefully directing people to this site will help him to gain employment. He already owns the required domain name.

Your Power Plan 6 dollars pm seems fine. Am I right? Is this available to UK Users? What is the UK equivalent price? How can we pay you? Are there any downsides for UK users in getting hosting from USA? Can we use our existing domain name. ie www.danielclane.com? Do you supply any pre built applications (opensource?) to support his requirement?

What else have I forgotten to ask?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

John

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

The Power plan is fine for the type of website he has. It is certainly available to anyone in the world, when you checkout you will see the rate at which you will pay. We have thousands of customers from the UK!

When you sign up, you'll receive an email which contains DNS. You'll have to sign into your registrar and change the DNS for your domain so that it points to our webservers.

We have "tons" of pre built applications and this forum is a perfect place to get help with them! Just let us know any other questions.

We have many sites hosted here and have a UK based group of companies (IT, Domain Registrars, Management comanies etc.) as well as our personal sites.
The main downside to hosting in the US is the added 100ms (one tenth of a second) which is added to the display time compared to the UK.
Upsides however are of course price, reliability (usually and if there is a problem there are no UK high priced numbers to call - just submit a ticket and usually it is dealt with quickly,) straight answers and this forum which has more useful (and useless) information than you would ever need.
I suggest paying by CC rather than Paypal (no VAT either and a good £1 = $2) also here you have the option to upgrade if needed to a reseller package if your Son finds it useful to have large projects against their own domain name (pick up a .co.uk for £10- for 2 Yrs) so it has it's own identity etc.

In the past I would have been about that comment, but you know what - you are exactly right.
