Question [Answered] Non-web software on a VPS?

In a VPS, do I have complete control over the software (and versions) that are installed on the system? For instance, if I require an MTA on the system am I free to install it? If I simply want to run a piece of, say, perl code that listens on a certain port and accepts connections am I able to do so?

Right now the OS is limited to CentOS. You can run cPanel if you would like or have the server bare bones. As for MTAs, as long as they transfer emails in a legit way (no spam). And you should be able to run the script that you want, as long as it isn't a malicious one.
