[Answered] Considering Dedicated

I'm currently a reseller but am considering purchasing a dedicated server.

I have a lot of questions though. I don't want to get in over my head.

Could someone overflowing with knowledge and patience help a girl out?

First, I don't want to give my customers a lot less than they already have as far as speed. How would this one do:
DC8 Pentium D 930 3.0 GHz 1GB 2 x 120GB 2TB Monthly $160 Monthly

stoens,

Dedicated is the ultimate environment for your accounts. Check here if you havent already Private Hosting - Surpass Web Hosting Forums and also let us know any specific concerns or questions you may have. Main advantages IMO are increased isolation aspect and a significant increase in account options and flexibility from a reseller shared account.

Mike, thank you for all your work on pass78. I really appreciate it.

Can you tell me, what that server experienced today would it be something I could avoid on a dedicated. As you may already know it's been having troubles for the last few days.

stoens,
The issue on pass78 was with the dns zone files and dns service. On a shared server there could be ~500-700+ different zones on for the dns server to interpret and process (one zone file for each domain). For some odd reason the dns server was having a problem loading the amount of zone files and the dns server (bind) had to be reinstalled and the server needed to be rebooted. The chances on this happening on a dedicated server is very low because in many cases you will not have 500-700+ domains such as that we have on some reseller servers.
FYI our reseller servers have 30-45 clients. Those clients can host unlimited domains. If each reseller had an average of 50 domains you do the math, you can think of these other domains as your neighbors. We all know how neighbors can be, some can maintain their lawn and their lot, some don't. Same thing with resellers.
The reseller environment is often the most volatile and is a hard transition for some smaller hosts. If the highest uptime is important then you then you should consider a more isolated solution such as dedicated. If you are already doing this then you are a step in the right direction.

Great server. However, if you can afford it, a Core 2 Duo server would give you more bang for your buck ... the C2D is a much faster, more efficient CPU.

Mike,
I hate math!!!

removed,
Thanks, I'll go have a look at the price difference.

I have another reseller account with &%*^(&^&^. Would Surpass move those accounts too? Is there a limit to how many accounts you'll move for me?

How different would the two environments be to me, dedi vs. reseller? Do I have to be all smart and techy? 'Cause I don't know if I can be smart and techy. Truth is, I'm pretty sure I can't be.

Sure, we'll give best effort towards copy accounts from any other cPanel host, at times this can be problematic taking accounts from another location outside of our network but 9.25/10 transfers complete fine. We'll even do this free for you if you sign up for a dedicated server.

You do not have to be extremely tech savvy to have a dedicated server account, these are managed solutions and we do all of the management for you. In a nutshell its a very stable environment with much more flexibility and options.
