I am very intrested in signing up for a hosting account. I just have a few questions I can't seem to find that answer to on the site.
1. With a "Standard" or "power" account, will my site have a dynmaic Ip or static? How much more a month is it to have static ip? Is it worth getting or is dynamic fine for personal site? 2. How many servers do you have for hosting? And about how many sites do you have on one server? 3. What do I do if i want to register a domain at another place like, Godaddy.com, Do i register the domain there 1st then proceed to sign up?

Imation,
Sorry it took me so long to answer your questions here. Had to deal with all of these people with problems that shouldn't even be happening. Crazy database. 1. All shared hosting accounts get a shared IP. You don't really need a static IP unless you want to run something secure on your site, such as a shopping cart system or any credit card processing interface. A static (dedicated IP) is $40 a year. 2. We currently have over 20 servers at Surpass and host over 7,000 domains, as stated on our company info page. We are putting up an info page soon with stats for all of them. We put about 250 accounts on each server and then take away some sites if they are busy, and move to them to a semi-dedicated server. We don't let any site effect the overall performance of the server. Of course not. If we did, we would lose clients. 3. You can register your domain at any company that you would like. Then you just change the DNS records. You might want to take a peek in the Announcements forum on the post I just made that has the welcome email that we send out, so you can understand what I mean.

By the way Imation, thank you for registering an account here at our forum. Some people, even existing clients, apparently don't feel the forum is something worth their time. We still love them anyway. :bananadance:

Wow! I guess all the customer comments I have heard really are true!
I think the one thing that makes a hosting company stand out is the customer realtions. You guys seem so friednly and helpful. About the static ip... $40 a year, so its basically a $3 addition to the regular plan price? Does the majority of your hosting clients have static or just dyanmaic, somsone told me to get static b/c its havinf you OWN IP and its not as shared.. And the issue with the domain, godaddy.com has domains for $8.99 a year, are yours our $15 is there any reason for this you can see? Also, Lets say I don't want to register a domain name, when i proceed to hosting signup how would i bypass the domain creation or transfer proceess? I assume the domain woulf be surpasshosting.com/my username? Thank you so much for your help!

Just about _everyone_ has the shared IP of the server their account is on. Unless your site is going to have a shopping cart, etc. you don't need an IP all to yourself. There is no reason.. GoDaddy specializes in domain names and can offer them at a cheaper price than we ever could. We cannot afford to charge so low for them. If you don't want to register a domain name, that is fine. But you'll have to input something into the domain field, even if it is not your domain. You can put whatever you'd like as the domain. You could put dontknow.com What is important though if you don't choose a domain name, is what you choose as your username. You will access your space by going to http://216.67.243.52/~username-of-your-choice

If any current company charges less than $15.00 a year and they are not a Dedicated Registar like Godaddy then they are hitting you with hidden charges that inflate the monthly services your getting.
Most people that want to buy just one or 2 domains would never mind paying a few dollars more to add the convenience of buying everything in one spot dealing with one company for all their needs with good service to back it up.
