Question Questions before I purchase Dedicated Server

Hi All, I'm new to this forum but have heard fantastic things about Surpass Hosting. Here's my questions.

I run a PostNuke site with pnphpBB Forums installed. I currently have 1340 members and still growing. The forums are the main reason users come to my site and I see anywhere from 30-60 users online at one time. With that said I have a lot of queries to the database. I'm looking at a dedicated server and budget wise probably a Celeron to start with.

1. Will a Celeron server handle my site and it's traffic, db queries, etc.?
2. My current host has cPanel so would Surpass Tech Support be able to move my entire site with db intact for me? At what cost?

There are probably more questions but those are the main two for now. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Jeff

1. you'ed have to test it yourself but im sure it would be more than enough as long as you dont have to much large downloads

2.Yes surpass could do it for you ( i think for free) you could to in about 30 seconds to 1 minute as long as you know your old username password and server IP

Ask TEQ what THIS forum is running on...

I'm pretty sure that a celeron would certainly handle it unless you've got a BUTT load of download files.

2 - YEP. They did it for me.

Hello jeff,

welcome to our forum.

I am glad you are looking into dedicated as ultimately this is the best decision long run for your website's home.

1. Will a Celeron server handle my site and it's traffic, db queries, etc.?

- Provided you don't put many other sites on the server that use up much resources then yes it would be fine, you can always upgreade the ram or cpu later on without any major movement of data or downtime. We use the same drives for you

2. My current host has cPanel so would Surpass Tech Support be able to move my entire site with db intact for me? At what cost?

- Actually with your own dedicated server you have the access called

" whm - move "

which lets you move any site from another server which uses cpanel. all it
requires is the old server ip, cpanel username and pass

Question

Thanks for the quick responses guys and gals. I may just go for the P4 server then just in case. Even though I could move the site myself using WHM would support do it for me? In addition, will permissions and everything else stay intact?

Thanks again and I can't wait to make the move.

Oh, one more thing. Whats the best way to order a dedicated server?

Ok, thanks for all the responses. The questions unfortunately keep coming after I submit others.

I see when signing up for a dedicated server it has fields for
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS
etc... what is needed in those fields?

Also, if I do the WHM move then how do I move my domain names, what nameservers?

Sorry bout all the questions but i like to know in advance. Can't really afford any downtime on my site.

Jeff

Perhaps there is a walkthrough in the forums somewhere that I missed.

To move domains, you have to go to that registrar and change the primary and secondary name servers...

so if you registered with Network Solutions, for example, you would go there - for the domain you registers (www.mydomain.net) and change the DNS servers to point to the new custom name servers created with your new dedi-server.

(for example - ns1.yourhostingcompany.com)
