There is a slim chance that your site would cause any problems. No xoops module has caused any yet, which is why we support xoops. I am sure you have saw the thread over there about how we give a free month to all xoops users. Patrick didn't mean to "scare you off" so I would hope you could reconsider.
Because where ever your site is hosted, and you are on a shared server, no matter *what* your site does, there is a chance it could cause server load to increase. Maybe it never would. But no matter what happens, we're here to keep the site up, and not down. We suspend maybe 1 or 2 sites a day and usually they are back online within an hour (currently hosting about 11,000 domains at this point). |

Thanks for the clarification, it has helped me understand better. Like I said, I am not into running chatrooms, but I might include a chatbox or shoutbox module on some sites. This is because of the nature of my sites. These are mostly community and professional sites, though I have some commercial ones and I do website development in my spare time. For example, at the moment I am developing a site for the social scientists community (socialscientists.net) using e-xoops which might, from time to time, provide synchronous online discussions for scholars to debate issues. This could involve perhaps twenty to thirty people in one chatbox for an hour or so. On another site, (cdtalk.net) powered by xoops I host community information in respect to a research project I am working with in my day job. It is important that on this site I provide the opportunity for participants to discuss things, and we will use a chatbox to conduct research (through focus group interviews) with up to twenty people at a time. Now, I don't want to have the insecurity (and the embarassement) hanging over my head that some superheated server administrator will yank the plug on me in the middle of such activities just because he/she has "happened to notice" some activity on my site. This is why I insisted on making it very plain what your policy on using any chat facility is. I also inquired form other providers of their policy, and in all cases their answer has been quite plain and straightforward. For eg., "Yes, we allow chatboxes, after all we provide one through cPanel, and if we need to suspend your service for any reason we will endeavour to let you know beforehand". I must say that your service looks very fine in many other respects, and this is why I am taking the time to provide you with this feedback which I hope you'll find useful and can use constructively. I would certainly suggest that you revise your policies on acceptable service provision so that you do away with anything that can create uncertainty. Provided that happens, I would certainly reconsider. Many thanks again.
