They mean stuff like images that aren't being used in a layout, or files that are not meant for traffic or viewing. Image servers are not allowed for example. As long as you use the files in/on your site you should not have any problems.
Might wanna wait for an official answer though... ![]() |

I'm not sure either. I asked that question in a thread once and I believe it was locked in the end
It was also quite vague about the answer as there never was a yes or no and a good roundabout description and was just told not to worry about it.In my opinion, if the files are legal and don't harm the server and you pay for x amount of storage, you should get x amount of storage. I most likely won't ever be using all my disk space but there are times where I use about 80% or so for a temp purpose. |

i think the primary concern is that people use their storage for file trading or backing up their collection of 7 pcs.
a bunch of photo albums? some video files from xmas? weblogs? bulletin boards? an online newspaper? marketing sites? all of those are just some legitimate uses of the space. serving up 4,000 MP3 files via FTP accounts? a ghost image of your winxp box? do that and your account and you are risking violating the AUP. question for you teammatt3 - how much disk space are these articles going to take up in practice? how big is the database you have right now? |

That part of the TOS is for people who purposely sign up to distribute files that are most of the time illegal or harmful, or that sometimes sign up just to distribute files and never use a domain- and only use the IP so that we can't track their usage. Then when they are alerted of their wrong doings, we point to that section of the TOS for their reference.
As far as for what newdles said about getting what you pay for (x amount of money for x amount of stoage) as the TOS says, we aren't operating file storage services, we are a web host, therefore we also have a compatible bandwidth offering. We will have it rewritten to be more clear. I have stated this before, but it is one of the last things on our to do list. Sorry. ![]() |

Thanks for the clarication finally
I've never intended to share files the way you're implying. The files I store that take up space are 2 different types: 1. dll files - Check out http://dll.webzila.com. That site is a site of my partners, Steve. I'm a mirror image of the files and was the primary server until last night when we made some changes. The files are FREE to everyone that needs them in case of a missing dll file within Windows. Go anywhere on the web that has more than 100 dll files or so and you'll find that you have to pay $9 or more to get the file. The files are very tiny but there are tons of them. Bandwidth usage is very minimal and the ONLY reason I signed on with Surpass with the disk space. I would rather have 10 gigs of disk space rather than 100 gigs of bandwidth. 2. Pictures - I have a TON of pictures that are extremely high quality. They are not open to the public nor will they ever be. These files are pictures of all sorts of various things ranging from objects, scenario pics, motion pics, people, food, business, economics, etc... all the way to panoramic views of beautiful areas. They are only viewed maybe once a month when I show them to my clients for a selection of royalty free images for their site(s) that I'm designing or going to be designing. Anyway, that's all I was adding input for really. Oh.. I finally found out why Teq has nearly 4,000 posts here. She doesn't know what the word edit means Quotes 14 lines of one person, says one line in response then creates another thread exactly the same multiple times ![]() hehe |
