ok a revival on an old topic
![]() howabout having a tracker on the site? I'm working on an electronic music portal and i want to give users possibility to share their own work which includes their own tracks, mixtapes, flyer layouts, VJ clips, etc. and to save my bandwidth and increse download speed i'd go for torrent. So if i'm sure the content is 100% legal ... would it be possible to set up a tracker on a dedicated server? |

Well, Torrentfiles are not illegal. It depends what the file is linking to.
Basicly a torrentfile is an file with MD5 HASH and information about the file. Example if you make a torrentfile of work that is created by you i don't see any problem have it on a shared server. unless it not exeed 70% of your diskspace. Be sure to read TOS

If you have (or will have) a dedicated server, give it a go.
We definitely cannot host trackers on shared servers, they end up using too much CPU. |

This is actually a superb thread for me because I run a (fully legal!) video hosting site and I have thought about setting up an optional tracker to help me with the bandwidth issue. Looks like that might happen if/when I go dedi, but then bandwidth won't be as much of an issue... *head explodes*
