I'm thinking of buying.

I run www.head-trip.org (currently down) and am looking at purchasing a shared plan. I would use paypal and wondering how long after I order, that my hosting would be up and ready for me to use. Say I order at 6:30 eastern time tonight. Also I would like to here some other peoples feelings on Surpass. Plus how your load times and download/upload rates are like. Thanks.

the account creation process is very straightforward so unless there is a specific issue with paypal ( which happens occassionally ) the hosting account can be set up quickly.

now as far as the domain name - you'd need to purchase one ( from us or elsehwere ) and then set the DNS accordingly. that would have to propagate which takes 24-72 hours.

until it propagated you could access your directory by
htttp://ipaddress/~username/
and ftp files and such using the IP address.

so the answer is you could have a site in a short period of time, set it up, upload files, etc. however as far as accessing it by a given domain that would take a few days ( but that's true everywhere )

you can read this thread for more specs about the data center and operations.

yea I know about DNS, as I already have a domain to use. BUt the main thing is the hosting. So say I order at 6:30 and nothing is wrong with my paypal, would it be raedy to go by 7 eastern?

Another question, do you have like a 6-month hosting plan? As a year is a little to long for me.

They have their own datacenter... and so they get good options to get good customers.

You have MONTHLY or YEARLY options. Why do you say a Year is a little long for you?

If you know your site is very resource intensive, you might want to discuss a 'semi-dedicated' server. It would surely suck if you transfered here only to be 'suspended' because you had some processes or stuff that beat the shared server to death....

You'll like it here.

I've been a design guy basically and have never been involved in buying hosting, so what do you mean by that?

If your site has scripts that use too much of the servers resources (CPU, Ram, connections, etc.) then it will adversely affect the others on that server. If it gets bad enough, everybody else starts to complain and the offending site gets suspended until it can get straightend out or moved to a dedicated or semi-dedicated server.
