pre-sales questions ... looking to switch, quick

Hello ... my name is Jason, and I have my domain, whiteAzn.com

I have switched hosting about a week ago, but thinking about switching hosting again.

Problem/Reason?

My main issue is being able to install and use MovableType (which ive read was accepted/supported here, then banned, and now supported again) and Gallery (image album software, http://gallery.menalto.com )

Problem I have with MT (MovableType) is that it requires Image::Magick binaries ... both hosts I've been with have had problems with it. The first one, went without problems, but I've left that host because I had Image::Magick problems with other software, and they cant seem to fix it. The host I just switched to now, keeps saying that Image::Magick is installed, but MT shows it not being installed.

Problem I have with Gallery, is that it requires NetPBM (or Image::Magick, but again, had problems). I also need jhead and jpegtran installed on the servers for Gallery. Another possible problem that I seem to see now on my prior hosts that Gallery says is something about open_basedir. It could be a problem, but then it might not be (not sure if this host is familiar with the software).

So I would like to know if both these software is supported. The hosting plans are very cheap compared to what I have now. Mainly, I would like to know if these two software is supported.

Also, other questions:

1. Do you allow SSH access? <--something I would REALLY like
2. Do you have limits on what extensions are allowed? I host MP3s for various DJs (the creators of the MP3s I host) and they give them to me for me to host for them. is this allowed, even though I am legally hosting it for them (I can get proof if needed).
3. How quick are the support responses?
4. My first host, who I was with the longest (went bad after they got taken over) was always ready to install any binaries/etc that I needed. What policy do you guys have regarding this?

I think that is all the questions I have. I have heard anywhere from people saying this is a good host, to others complaining about a rough time here (get alot of "during a rough time/period"). Also reading about alot of controversy regarding the statement about owning your own data center (alot of speculation, blah blah). But mainly I would like the above questions answered.

Thank you for your time.

Moveable Type is supported - but you'd best keep up with the patches.

support can give you the proper path for imagemagick on your server once you're account is assigned to one.

You have to pay a fee, and you'd better be a good boy....

Just provide a link to a statement that you have permission to host them. Watch the bandwidth utilization though. Oh, you can't just be a 'file host' - you have to have the related web site...

pretty darn fast. When something big goes wrong it can take a while for them to reply, but that is simply because they're actually WORKING on it...

If you have SSH, you don't really need them. In fact, because each account has it's own CGI-BIN directory, most scripts are easy to install. Scripta does a great job of installing a bunch of things too. Support can help you, though, as well as all the fine folk in these forums.

Speculation is just that. Have there been troubles? Yep. But no more than anywhere else. And support always fixes it. They can't prevent a DOS attack, for example, but they're on it right away. As to the 'datacenter' thing, the main server is hosted elsewhere for redundancy! (redundancy is good...).

Hope you join the family...

John
