Dedicated Server Questions (game servers)

Considering upgrading to dedicated... just entertaining the thought. I have a few questions before I move forward with anything.

1) Generally, how processor intensive are game servers in the grand scale of things? I would want to be able to run a game server (are multiple game servers for different games out of the question? more expensive server required?) in addition to websites that aren't necessarily very demanding, but I don't want significantly reduced load times to any degree that is fairly noticeable.

2) How much bandwidth do game servers generally consume? Could you give me some sense of the scale, without knowing the game? Say something along the lines of a Tribes 2 server. Would I be hard pressed to keep my bandwidth under control or am I looking at something unexpected like it only using 1/8's of my bandwidth/m?

3) How difficult is it to set up a game server? Anyone know of a guide to the process that I can look over so I know what I'm in for?

I have no sense of what kind of usage I would be looking at if I were to multi-task websites and game server(s). If anyone could give any input on this, it'd be much appreciated.

Enter DNDONLINE and Unleashed.

Atleast I think they know what they're talking about. Among others.

As for me, no clue.

depends what game and for mmost i'd say you could run 2 game servers with about 30 websites or 3 game servers with 2-4 websites<-- you might notice a bit of slowdown on your sites on surpasses celeron 1.7

Most games should only go through about 64-80 gb of bandwidth out of your 4000 gb (2000gb in, 2000gb out)

I would find the game and with the game there should be a setup guide with it

Thanks for your help unleashed.

On another note, if someone were to ask me what connection my server was running on in-game, what would I tell them?

OC-48 or a DS3

OC-48 is over 2Gbps
DS3 is 45Mbps

Chances are your going to be on the OC-48 lines
