Question / hosting

Hello ^_^.

I'm running my website on a french host, but right now, I don't have enough space to all my content.

I'd like to keep my website on this host and buy one of your offers here to be able to put my files on it (not my whole website... for now).

Can I do that?

I've tried to subscribe to one of your offer, and it is asked to indicated the domain name I'll use... But maybe I won't use one for this (what I want to say is I'll just put files here, so I'll just link here from my website).

Thanks in advance for your reply!

P.S.: I just posted the same question on another hosting website which look like very similar to yours. I said them their offers are great but yours are great too . Do you have any link with CirtexHosting?

[Edited cause it was a little unclear ...]

Yeah you could do that I imagine but all your linked stuff would be like http://(server IP address)/~username. I think you would be better off to just purchase a simple domain name and use it. You can get one for like $7 a year at many site.

I don't think Surpass has any ties with CirtexHosting.

I also highly recommend coming here. You will be very happy if you do.

Thanks for your reply Beldin .

Actually, I already have a domain name (japanese-kanji.org). What I'd like to do for now, is uploading my files to another host (here for example), but keep my website and "text content" on my other host.

I signed with my other host for 1 year in april so I want to use it. Also, as I'm using Xoops, I'm "afraid" about saving all my contents / database / forum and uploading it to another host. (I don't want to lose all my data).

I'm french so maybe my english isn't that good, sorry...

If your current host uses Cpanel, your Xoops would be moved entirely by Surpass support.

The Surpass TOS states that you shall not use the service as a 'file depot' only...

You might want to check with the support / sales team to make sure that what you want to do is OK.

Thanks for your reply Bigjohn.

I don't think my current host used cpanel (actually, I didn't know this thing before searching for a new host... today ^o^).

If the TOS say I can't do that, then I won't. I've to think about how to procede to back up my website correctly (and database...).

It's strange to see how "foreign" (outside of France) hostings offers are greater than here, in France, for the same price...

About that cpanel, maybe I could install it by myself?

Hi alyussium,

Couple of things:

1) people move their sites to Surpass all the time. It's a simple process. have no fear.

2) I'm not sure how uploading the site contents is going to lose your data, since it will 1) be on your PC to upload and 2)we offer backup tools for you to use to backup your site.

3) Web hosting space is not the space to backup up the file content or your PC.. It's meant to be used to serve up web page/ graphics / and other content.

4) You could ask your other host for a refund and sign up with Surpass no? A good web host will always refund the money for the unused time period of your hosting package,

cPanel is pretty expensive for a single user to purchase. its included free with the shared hosting packages at Surpass.

You can also work with our support team to move the contents of your other site to your Surpass hosting space ( regardless of whether or not your host uses cPanel )

hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply sam!

About losing data, it's not too much about the content, but about the database. I often make some backup but I'm not sure if I do it right.

I'll see if my current host would be agree to refund my money. Actually, I like my current host, it's fast, but prices are expensives compare to yours...

I didn't know about cpanel, thanks for telling me .

Well, I need to think about what to do now ^_^. Thanks again!

Alyussium, I think you're making this into a bigger issue than it actually is. Backing up and restoring a database is no big deal and the users here, along with Surmunity tech support, will be glad to assist you in making the move. Just jump into it with both feet - you'll be fine.
