Question Some help please.

Hi,

I have a domain name registered already, with a company that I was going to host with.

I have not signed up for hosting yet, as I am still working on my site, but now I have come across xoops.org. This PHP site tool looks really interesting and useful. Much better than what a relatively new html programmer could do.

Xoops.org recommended Surpass Hosting in its forums, and I was wondering if the program is available with hosting, and how much extra it costs?

Also, what is a sub-domain? (I like making websites, its a hobby. I am tired of the free hosting lotsa ad hosting)

Anyway, any help would be appreciated, so I could make my decision.

Thanks,

Thank you for your interest in Surpass, we are thrilled to have you here.

Xoops is completely free. You can install it yourself by downloading it from their website. Or, we provide it in our hosting control panel, an easy install requiring virtually no work on your end to get it running. It is automatic.

Subdomains are like

http://my.surpasshosting.com

A name in front of the domain (a folder)

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Surpass is indeed Xoops friendly. Also Mambo, Phpnuke, PostNuke, PHPMyWebsite... The list of stuff jammed into Scripta is long.

And with few exceptions, you can run just about any CMS or script you want here.

You don't have to transfer your domain from your current registrar either. Just go to the domain control panel (whatever the registrar provides) and change your name servers to the ones you're given in the welcome to surpass email.

Search my name in these forums for several messages talking about Parked Domains, Addon Domains, and subdomains. I've been doing this (at several other hosts) for about 6 years now...
