Question about MySQL DB's

At my current host i have to have a unique name for my databases, is that true here also? like i wanted to use a db name of gallery for my gallery script... but i was forced to use a unique one of gallerysuchandsuch instead because someone through there services already had gallery taken? is this issue the same with surpass hosting because if it isn't i will switch as soon as my old host time runs out?

All your databases at surpass will have a prefix of your username.

so it will be like:

username_mydatabasename

if you want a database called username_gallery that is fine.

There is no point in buying a dedicated just to remove the prefix. Plus I still use username prefix on a dedicated, makes keeping track of all the accounts so much easier.

Besides, even if it does have a username in front, when you log in to the account, most times you can decide what the log in and password are.

I've come across the fact that the database and the user using the database have the username in front IE username_gallerydb and username_galleryuser. But once you log in to make any changes you can log in as like "admin" with a pwd of "pictures" or something like that.

that's a bit of an overkill no?

how many times does your code refer to the database name? most of the packages we provide in scripta - it's a one time reference in a configuration file.

i'm trying ot see your side in this - so let me ask you - why is it that important? is there an existing application that has hardcoded db references?

no

i don't really need it i was just asking... trying to see how all sellers work? its not just databases but when i created a new database with my current host i have to create a new username... and that has to be unique also... so it gets to be a hassle getting everything in line and remembering all the usernames/db names and stuff

Technically, you can assign the same 'user' to all the databases - if you want to , for example, create an ADMIN user.

Separate users for applications is recommended for security.
