I'm just looking for extra webspace for my school organization so having a whole domain name isn't necessary for my purposes. We already have an address that needs to stay the same and on school servers. I would be hosting mostly pictures and some pages to run functions not supported by the school server.

So my question is, it is possible to have hosting without my own domain name? For example something like www.surpasshosting.com/~acs, is that at all possible?

You would buy space to host whatever you want there. As long as it doesn't violate the purchase agreement.

You'd have an ip address and a username to store your files.

So, the answer is yes. You might not get to use the surpass domain though.

Hm, thanks I didn't know they were that cheap. Still not necessary for us but I'm sure our treasurer will go for that.

If you decide to not get a domain, you'll just be some numbers and a username :-)

Like this,
http://69.20.5.177/~acs/

It may be a good idea just to go ahead and buy a domain, somewhere- even if it's not with us. It doesn't matter if you get one with us or another company. But please do get hosting with us. :surpass:

a domain would help with some scripts, BBS and other stuff.
So if you decide to go with any hosting service U wont go wrong with a cheap domain.

Buy it for a few years while its cheap. 3 years $15
or 10 years $50.00

10 years is the MAX
