reseller space overselling

I keep seeing all over the place, other resellers that allow overselling of space and bandwidth and accounts and so forth..

I am curious are we allowed to do that here, with our reseller accounts or not?

cheers

MJ

No. Reselling is not allowed on reseller accounts. I read that they would allow a few resellers to oversell on a server (I believe for an additional price, assuming they even still do that), but in general, the answer is no.

Failure is not an option. It comes standard with all Microsoft products.

you're right, it's a risky scenario none-the-less...

Overselling is selling the same space and/or bandwidth more than once, knowing that most people don't use all of their space.

It's based on actual use, not the size of the plans.

Let's say you have 10GB.

Without overselling, you can make 10 1GB accounts. The average user uses 250MB, for a total usage of 2.5GB. The other 7.5GB is lost.

With overselling, you take that same 10GB and sell 30 1GB accounts. Assuming the average use is 250MB, there is a total of 7.5GB actually used, leaving you 2.5GB of cushion in case that average goes up. You have made 3 times the money however.

There are 2 issues to consider:

1. If everyone starts to use what they've paid for, you're going to have to come up with disk space and/or transfer quickly enough so that you don't hit the limit yourself.

2. You're not the only one overselling. Surpass is as well. That's not bad as long as you get what you paid for if you actually need to use it. However, multiple levels of overselling compounds the risks of overselling, as they are counting on you not actually filling up the space that you've purchased either.

It's a game, but a necessary game. If there were no overselling at Surpass' level, their prices wouldn't be anywhere near where they are now. As long as it's done responsibly (which I believe is the case here), it works fine, and keeps the hosting affordable.

If you want to maximize your reseller account, make smaller plans, and upgrade the customer as needed.

Or, go dedi, and play the game yourself. Just be prepared to order bigger hard drives.
