Pass61 hitting CPU of 4.25 / 3.1

Pass61 is hitting a pretty high CPU load. Is there any way for me to be able to make sure it isn't my sites causing the problem?

An uptime tracker site I use reported problems but my domain and a few hosted domains don't seem to be having problems (now).

OK the proc load is down to 1.5 so whatever it is must be over now. Still interested to know what caused the problem. Any admins with free time have some answers? :-)

When you see a quick spike in server load, it can sometimes be a very large site generating a backup, or the server updating something, or somebody;s site may have been hit with a lot of traffic. If you see a high server load stay there for a while, then you should alert support so they can see what may be causing the problem.

It seems that tonight Awstats for one particular site was updating and they must have a lot of data to process...

well I don't have a mamob install (not even through fantastico) so I'm clear on that one. I don't think my sites have enough traffic for awstats to take a long time so I might not be the culprit. :-)

Thanks for the update Kayla.

I was mainly posting in case anyone else on pass61 had noticed high load earlier in the day. And I was posting in case Kayla was just waiting for somethign to do (heh).

We seem to be hitting 2-5 on the CPU load all day (checked randomly today) but hopefully this is nothing more than a busy site and not the result of cracked apps or exploited php.

Just thought you might want something to look into on a slow monday (coud be busy, but not from my point of view).

Hi Jason,

I am checking it out. It seems to have only happened today - it's a photography site which has been using all CPU off an on. I cannot really tell why, but it seems today they updated thumbnails or did some kind of optimization, which had the opposite result on the server. Thank you for pointing this out.
