I will tell them tomorrow. Let's hope that works. I am skeptical.

FYI, a little online googling suggests that the open port is 8080. I will try to confirm with my IT folks that's the port they are concerned about.

From work IT

Regardless....we are getting inbound traffic from their networks that the firewall is identifying as Nirbot update traffic. We will not be opening up this site
Okay, so now what? It seems that they are not going to change their firewall rules for me.

Is there anything Surpass can do to help me?

Well. Sounds like you are between a rock and a hardplace. Obviously, your employer can restrict access to any site/IP/port that they see fit.

Maybe they dont want you running your reseller business on company time.... ;-)

There doesnt appear to be much you can do. Here's how I see it. (try to read these without sarcasm or smugness)

(1) Do your reselling work from home on your own time.
(2) Get a wireless card for your laptop from your cell provider.
(3) See if you can find a rogue WiFi access point that gives you unfettered access.
(4) Make friends with the alpha geek in IT, and get access to the unfirewalled proxy. (Believe me, it exists, you think those guys live behind a firewall???)

Thats about all I can think of.

I don't resell. I use the space for myself and friends/family

I do that already. But there are pages I''d like share with my friends/co-workers. For example: http://www.msj3.com/2007/05_birds1/

I was in the office of the IT manager I have been talking to about this. He doesn't have unrestricted access, so I doubt I am getting it.

At this point, I am hoping that someone from Surpass will see this thread and have a solution.

Well you could also use a proxy. Either set one up at your home, or use a webbased proxy like thecloak.com .

Do a google for personal proxy or web proxy.

Referring to your ticket: Is there any way for your networks admins to paste you the scan results to foward to our team in the ticket?

The only other option would be to have them open a ticket and refer back to yours.

Also in your first post you mentioned:

Nirbot - Also known as: W32/Delbot (Sophos), W32.Rinbot (Symantec), Backdoor.Win32.VanBot (Kaspersky) - it seems to work through port 8080

Maybe let our guys know in the ticket that your IT guys are detecting traffic coming from our servers through port 8080 so they can check that one specifically if they haven't already.

I have asked my IT contact to forward me this information. If he does not want to send it to me, I asked him who Surpass should contact.

I have not yet heard back. I am concerned he is irritated with me and in the end sees this as not worth pursuing.
