DNS Setup Confusion...
I'm a bit befuddled by DNS settings for accounts. Recently, a friend of mine registered a domain with surpassdomains.com. The nameservers the account spit out were ns100.dizinc.com and ns101.dizinc.com.
I'm hosting her site under my reseller account. When I set up her hosting account, WHM automatically plugged those values in as her nameservers. Meanwhile, I registered another domain under MY account with surpassdomains.com, and the nameservers it kicked out were ns1012.dizinc.com and ns1013.dizinc.com. Those are the nameservers WHM pulled up when I configured that new site under the same reseller hosting account. All the other sites I host are also using those nameservers. As of this morning, the SECOND site has propogated through, and can be reached by its domain name. The first site is nowhere to be found, unless you hit it with the IP/directory directly. SO: when I'm setting new accounts up, do I need to change the domain registrar's DNS servers to ns1012 and ns1013 for all accounts? Or is there something else I'm doing wrong? Sorry for my newbishness! ![]() Jeff. ----------------------- Server: Pass56 Main Site: ferrellweb |

Those are the default nameservers when you register a domain.
You need to change them to ns1012 and ns1013 for it to show up on your server ![]()

Erk. I did something wrong, it looks like: the new nameservers have propogated; a whois lookup shows the new domain name associated with my nameservers.
But now the domain doesn't seem to resolve correctly -- entering it in the browser dumps out to the raw IP, 72.29.87.113, and the Apache/cPanel/WHM "success" page. I'm really lost now -- what else do I need to switch to point it to the correct subdirectory? Jeff. |

Well in order to view your site from the IP address, it has to look like this:
http://IPADDRESS/~username/ |

Yes, yes. But if a WHOIS lookup for mynewdomain.com now shows the nameservers as ns1012.dizinc.com and ns1013.dizinc.com, shouldn't I be able to type "mynewdomain.com" into the browser and see my index.html page?

Just confirming that the DNS for Pass56 are indeed ns1012.dizinc.com / ns1013.dizinc.com and all domains under your account should be set to those.
Secondly if your domain is now resolving but you see a cPanel page, please open a ticket to have them check it out. This happens sometimes for some reason, most often with add on domains though and not actual new accounts. |
