Fraud Order

So I had somebody sign up for hosting service though my business and they paid and everything and the account was automatically setup.

I checked my mail last night and noticed a order was placed and setup.

I then checked my paypal and the order wasn't authorized from the buyer's paypal account and today there was a dispute placed about the unauthorized payment from somebody else's paypal account that doesn't belong to the person who placed the order.

The person who ordered it and the person's paypal account used including addresses, name, and phone numbers do not match at all. Whoever ordered the account was already uploading files to the server before paypal chimed in with the fraud.

Is this a common problem nowdays? This is the first time I have seen it happen.

I am dealing with the paypal issue and I have suspended this users hosting account due to fraud with the payment.

Any input on this would be awesome.

Yes, this happens to Surpass all the time. This is why we manually process/activate new signups, thus it taking 24-48 hours for your account activation/welcome email.

I might have to start doing the same thing to avoid these types of orders as they are annoying.

I think I need to find another way to process CC too since these types of problems can hang paypal up for several weeks

with whmcs you can force it to call the persons phone number if you have signed up with maxmind...

also in whmcs, it tells you that the ip address is not within a decent distance of the clients physical address, I have had a few of those and thank god for maxmind...

What if I want to sign up with you, from home, but according to many sources, my IP address is located in Amsterdam, about 100KM from me.

I think that might be what they meant by "decent distance". I don't use the software, so I don't know..

Well I refunded this guy once and he recieved that money but somehow he managed to do a chargeback too and get double the amount of money back that he actually was charged.

I'm not sure how that is possible but I'm closing my paypal account before he can manage to do it again because I think that is total bullshit.

i need to find a CC processing service that isn't totally bogus like paypal.
