Frontpage Extensions

Hi

I am a reseller on Pass21, I have quite a few customers who have published sites using Frontpage.

I see from this post that Microsoft have dropped support for the extensions.

I presume that for reseller servers currently having FPSE these will continue in place until Apache is upgraded to v2.2 - can this be clarified?

Is there any reasonable estimate for when this upgrade might take place - so that I can warn these customers and they can begin investigating alternatives with some timetable in mind?

Thanks in advance

I don't know if they have an exact timeline for when they perform these updates on specific servers, rather they just update it when they get to it, could be a week, could be a month. That is just a guess though.

If you open a ticket with the helpdesk (http://desk.surpasshosting.com) they may have more information, or may be able to direct your ticket to someone who does have more information as they deal with the servers firsthand.

Sorry for any uncertainty
Yes, Reseller servers currently having FPSE will continue to have them until Apache is upgraded to v2.2.

When the Apache upgrades take place you will be notified via the email address on the billing profile for your reseller/shared account, we will notify you well in advance. We will also make an announcement in the server notification forums.
Although planning is not complete yet, I expect the Apache 2.2.x upgrades to be completed around January as our previous Mysql5/PHP5/Suexec campaign took around 6 months to complete. We only feel comfortable doing 3-5 servers a day because of possible complications. Many shared servers.

Please let me know any other questions in this thread or via PM.
Thanks

Good to see that you're notifying people via email, as not everyone uses the forums. I will dispatch a notice to my clients now outlining what is going to happen. I don't think any of them use FPSE, but it's good to show that I'm letting them know either way...

Next question.
My customers are looking for something easy to use to replace Frontpage sites in the short term.
I was going to suggest ClickBe but when I log in to cPanel and select Fantastico, ClickBe is not listed - am I looking in the wrong place? Or does it need to be enabled on request?
(any other suggestions for free/included tools for replacing these websites appreciated, but these users are not techie enough to deal with something like Wordpress without asking me a lot of questions, so it needs to be simple stuff).

Hello Haggis
I am working on our Parallels Sitebuilder launch. I am pushing to have it completed by end of the month. New Site Builder Survey
*crosses fingers*

I am checking/reinstalling ClickBe! on pass21 in the meanwhile, please verify when you can. Please feel free to PM me directly with any specific questions surrounding FPSE/ClickBe!/Parallels Sitebuilder or anything related.

Mike

Thanks for your help with ClickBe.
It is appearing on cPanel now but tried installing on a spare domain (leaving directory blank) and got this error
Warning: fopen(/home/<accountname>/public_html/.click_be/click_be.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1216917655.10936315z7uiOdh on line 88

Now if I click manage it tells me I haven't installed any sites yet, if I click install it tells me it's already installed

More than happy to raise a support ticket on this. Let me know if you prefer me to do that.

<edit> decided to delete the account and start afresh, account might have breached it's disk limit which might have caused the error above
<edit> nope, got same error again after recreating the account

Haggis,

Something is indeed wrong with the installation. I just installed it on a site and it was unable to be Managed. If you could open a support ticket and paste the ticket ID in this thread I will have it checked immediately. TIA
