What's the name of my email host? An easy question for everyone but me. I checked out the support page and found nada. Ditto with the "account activated" email.
Some background: I'm an Internet dilettante. I don't know the difference between PHP and perl. I don't know what a kernel is and I don't know whether Surpass has one. I'm currently trying to install netpbm and I haven't a clue which flavor Surpass would like. Linux? FreeBSD? I'm lost. Network admins hate people like me. All I want to do is host my wife's art gallery and a blog for my friends. So my suggestion: Err on the side of posting everything on the support page. That includes new customers' new email server, mail.surpass.com, which is listed on the intro page that describes the different packages, but isn't on the support page or the FAQ that I can find. Otherwise Surpass so far is just fine. |

anyway, I'm not sure of this but I think the name of your email host and your server are the same! if you don't know whats your server name is go to Cpanel (www.yoursite.com/cpanel) and on the TOP right you will see your info...
what plan you have, and whats your server name... |

Hi Webster,
Thanks for your help, but I already found the name of my mailhost. The point of my post was to ask Surpass to put that information on the support page for Internet idiots like me. Posting is embarrassing when you're not too bright computer-wise, and quickly makes people impatient, and your later questions get ignored. The natural place to go to answer questions is the support page or the FAQ. The mailhost info isn't on either. I think they should add something that says, "Hey, Internet idiot, your mailhost name is mail.yourstupidyetyouthinkitscleverdomainname.com. " Believe me, this is the best way, as I've discovered in my long experience as an Internet idiot. I've just spent the past hour fruitlessly trying to figure out my root name. That should be there, too. But I'm still working on that one and haven't reached the I'm-desperate-so-I'll-post-the-question phase. |

Additionaly you might need to use your own ISP for your SMTP, Port 25, Some ISPs now Block Port 25 at the Router at the Main Office of the ISP, so using mail.yoursite.com as a smtp might not work. Some ISPs will unlock the port 25 if you give them a good reason, except COX Cable, you will need a Business Account to unlock port 25.
Just Configure SMTP to your ISPs SMTP server and it acts as a Proxy Server. B)
