Question about Mambo

Hi,

I asked this question in one of my thousands of emails to tech support (sorry to anyone that can't get through to them, it's my fault, I have been hogging their time)... anyway...

I am learning to use CMS in the form of Mambo... so decided to go ahead and set up a little hosting and design site for my Alaska customers....

On this page http://camaiweb.com/cw/content/view/3/28/ (site is nowhere near done and this is one of the few pages up) you will note a link to cpanel demo. This is using the same demo that Surpass has posted.

I wrote and asked if it is ok to use that demo, I don't want to get in trouble... but never got a reply back on that.

Is it ok to link to your demo? As far as I think I understand, you guys reset your demo regularly. I can obviously set up my own demo, but am terrified someone would misuse it and, of course, I am responsible for what people do on my part of the server... so I linked to your demo. Please let me know if this is ok, if not, I will remove the link right away.

**Edit** One request please... when you are at that page, can you tell me if you see the little edit link (a pencil) on the top left corner of the text under the header graphic? It should not be visible, but every time I load the page it is there. I am thinking it is remembering me, but if you can see it, then I have to go figure out what I did wrong and make it go away. **

Thanks

Surpass' demo is a demo that is set up by cPanel... or WHM? Anyways, it's automatic. It resets automatically, and alot of features are disabled. Unless you have a dedicated server I don't think you can SAFELY setup a cPanel demo.

I don't think they'll have a problem, but I'm not Surpass. I could be wrong.

Thanks.

I sure don't want to set up my own... Hopefully they will see this post and give me an answer. I don't want to make a mistake and link to something that I shouldn't.

Yes, you can use our demo. We set it up ourselves. I believe the demo is currently running on the server Mango.

Thanks!!! The server name really doesn't matter to me. It could be located in Tahiti under top security.... :shark:

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules by linking to it.

Did you happen to peek at the page and see if that edit link (pencil) showed. I just can't figure that one out.

Thanks

Hi,

Teq, thanks for looking. I think that no matter what browser you were on, you would see the pencil. I think the reason I am seeing it is because it is remembering my admin login.

Etan, thanks for the compliment. Yes, that's my first attempt and ANY CMS template. All I did was take off all mention of the right side menus and modules then created the "look".

I have never tried a CMS before. I create everything in notepad. It's funny, it has taken me 3 days to do as little as you see there. A normal website usually only takes me that long to finish! This one http://www.billysipejr.com only took me a few days. I decided to try and learn this CMS stuff so a few of my sites can change over to it and then the client can edit the text themselves. I just don't have the time to do it for everyone anymore and thought it would be great if they could do the small edits themselves.

But.... first I have to learn how it works. So far I am finding that I don't use the text editor at all in the designing phase... I am using the html option and creating it that way... but once that is done, appears they can just use the text editor to make changes.

It's rather like Front Page. I tried that once and hated it. To get the look I wanted I still had to use the html option and create it that way. I found myself creating in Notepad and then pasting it over to Frontpage. Doing the same thing with the Mambo. Old dogs and new tricks you know... I am the old dog, still using Notepad for everything.

Thanks all.
