Imagemagick and GD problems repeatedly in Drupal

The Drupal Developer Comunity is having repeated and multipe problems with Imagemagic. I am a quasi memeber and haven't had the problems untill lately . My box is a shared reseller here and was wondering if anyone had any insight.

I can't directly check the paths to imagemagick convert binary without shell access and wonder if that is possible. Moreover I've inputed the three possible places according to supports knowledge base and they may or may not be correct as there are so may other possible reasons for this crisis... here is a drupal thread on the issue. http://drupal.org/node/view/9066

Does anyone have any insight ... what are the actuall paths to to gd, imagemajic convert?? Not that it matters really ... but it might give us sime help... thanks

Try this path:

/usr/X11R6/bin/convert

for ImageMagik on your server.

Similar problem here

I was trying to install Gallery on a client's site a few days ago and everything appeared to be setup right. But when I tried to upload photos I get and error message that "thumbnails can not be created". The pictures do no upload at all.

I've been using Gallery on several other sites with no problem but I figured that I must have done something wrong in the install. I never could figure out what it was though.

I few minutes ago I tried to upload photos to a site with a Gallery install that has been working perfectly for about a year. Guess what... same problem! Couldn't create the thumbnails.

It's ImageMagick that handles the resizing and thumbnail creation so it must be be some problem with the ImagMagick installation on the servers. I sure would like to get it back to normal!

BTW: I not on DRUPAL, my server is DIME

Did you check your path (to imagemagik) with the one I posted?

John

Yep, I did!

John,

Yes I did try that as well. Same result. Everything looks fine until you try to upload pix. Then you get the "no thumbnail" error.

The Gallery configuration wizard reports the following:
Quote:
Warning
Missing optional binary composite. Without composite gallery will not be able to watermark images, except you use NetPBM and have the pnmcomp binary installed.

2 of 3 ImageMagick binaries located.
It also says "12 of 13 NetPBM files found".

Ahh then this is surely one for Support. You should have all the files, I'm thinking.

i havent used that Drupal portal and not sure of the gallery however did you check the documentation and permissions needed for the gallery/thumbs(or whatever the folder is called)?
thumbs may need a 777 chmod and if this was preinstalled using scripta it may not have set its permissions properly.

If that doesn't work, try /usr/X11R6/bin

I have multiple installations of Gallery and have extensive experience with it... f'ing great software! Anyway, I just checked and that's the path I use and will probably fix your problem.

Still won't work...

Been away for a high school band reunion, sorry to be so long between posts.

Mr.Tangent and Big John, Thanks for the advice. I have tried to follow it , but to no avail.

One improvement in the situation though... Gallery's config wizard now finds all 3 binaries for ImageMagick. The wizard gives me a "Congratulations, setup was a success...go, go, go", message on the first page so Gallery is finding ImageMagick.

Temp dir. is properly assigned and chmod'd. So is the albums directory.

I still can't upload anything. Again, the only error message is: "thumbnail can't be created".

I guess I'll file a ticket on this as Big John suggested. I just like to see how much we can solve of our problems here in the forum. If we don't solve it we learn from the attempt. If we do, we leave a searchable record that might help someone else in the future.

Thanks, Jim
