Of course people will have different opinions when it comes to advertising their website. Of course what I will explain here, are ways that I think might work in the long run whether you are new or old to the game.

Search Engine Optimization

The first sure way to get quick exposure to your website is fixing it up for SEO (Search Engine Optimization). You're probably wondering what this means (of course if you don't know already), pretty much it helps your website get better search results with keywords/tags that relate to the content of your website. The common way to achieve this is by setting up META tags between the <head></head> tags in your HTML coding. Giving a description and relative keywords are the usual meta tags that you will see in ones coding. Sometimes, people will even add an author or copyright META tag.

Another way to optimize your website is by adding tags related to blog or page post. WordPress is a great tool for helping out with this.

You can also add alt/title tags to your images, the only downside to image searches is that sometimes people will direct link to the source, being your website, and basically steal your bandwidth. So I would advise doing this, unless you really want to.

Paid Advertisement

Another way, that most businesses like to get into are paid advertisements. As most things in this world, when money is involved you can guarantee results. The only downside, sometimes the price for these special ads can be a bit pricey when start out, or the advertisement itself can be way too small.

Make sure you know what your are paying for before signing up for a years worth of advertising and only getting a tiny 88x31 sized banner. I would only recommend that type of advertising if you have a personal site, but for a business you should stick to the bigger banners sizes like 468x80 or 728x90. The bigger the better and most of the time the more expensive, but hey it costs to get noticed.

Free Advertisement

You're probably wondering how this is possible and where you can go to quickly post your site, well, the catch to this is you'll probably have to re-post your site on a daily basis in order to gain a decent amount of hits to your site. I mainly referring to plug websites, once going to one you will notice that many of the website featured are more on the personal side with the occasional business banner, but hey its free, so why not?

Thanks for Norin for reminding me. Another great way to get FREE traffic to your website...word of mouth! If your site is interesting enough, people who enjoy visiting your website, will usually link to it, to share it with others who view their site. This system can be referred to as networking. Believe it or not but a lot of companies are usually advertised through word of mouth and have never paid a cent for advertising. Anything is possible. =)

I like it. Simple and strait to the point. However, you might want to mention the best free advertising ever: loyal visitors who spread your site by word of mouth.

I suggest putting naughty images on your site and renaming it to "________'s Naughty Picture Site".
