Hi,
I get this error while using 3D-FTP to load my files. Doesn't happen on other servers. Quote:
Thanks, Richard Lindquist First Post!

Yes, I agree, I am having this problem too due to too many connections. It only happened recently, so I assume that you have just enabled such a restriction.
The problem is, if I have 200 files to upload to my server, using only 3 threads can take me ONE HOUR to complete the upload, as compared to 15 minutes before. Thus, PLEASE PLEASE REMOVE THIS restriction??? Thank you!!!!! |

Think of it as when you download more than one file via IE at one time - instead you are uploading.

Thanks N715DP - you explained it better than I would have.
Being able to use multiple threads sure gets things done a lot faster. Since they have it limited to 3 threads they must know what they are and why it is set up that way. If they have it set that way for a good reason I'll live with it but I may pout and grumble quietly to myself. Richard Lindquist

My guess is that they have it set to 3 to limit the "hammering" on the ftp server(s) as 1 connection x 200 files is a lot less load (CPU and otherwise) than 3 connections x 67 connections. The reason for this is that each time a thread starts (each file upload), the sign on process and handshake take place again and again, where as with a constant connection (1 thread), the sign on happens once and then the handshake happens again and again.
While it's a bit of a pain when doing a ton of files to only be able to do 3 threads, it's better than being able to do, say, 10 threads and have a slow responding server.

But if you look at the cpu usage under CPanel, it hovered around 0.03 - 0.05 most of the time.
I understand the cpu resources taken, but what about raising the limit? Like setting a max of 10 connections instead of 3? |
