Question Email limits question...

From the FAQ:
Quote:
On shared and reseller servers: The number of times users are allowed to check their mail (using pop3) per hour is 30 times. Each domain can send 350 messages or less per hour. These are our standard limits enforced to protect all users and to maintain optimum server performance.
Does this apply to mailing lists too? What if I have email list with more than 350 users?

You would send one email to the list. The list redistributes to your members but not using POP3, so I don't think the rule applies.

I would confirm this with support, but messages generated by your LIST would be restricted as well. I think that message 351 and up are queued, but I'm not certain - I've never done this.

Now that BigJohn says that, I do remember a post about this a while back. I think the person had stated that messages on his/her list were being queued... Definitely something to ask Support.

well crap.... I just signed up a client to host a domain specifically for the mailman software that their current host refused to provide (ignorance mostly... so now he lost some of his client's business and I got a few hundred consulting fee to set everything up and administer it).

SO off to the support staff I go....

Well there is no way for support to up the limit for how many emails are sent out per domain. You're probably going to have to look into a vps if you need to send more mail than the limit

I sent a request to support for clarification on if the limit was imposed on uinque messages (thus excluding mailing lists) or including any individual email message.

You can use Sendmail, but expect the mailmain software to be hard capped at 350 emails / hr per domain regardless of the method used to send the email.

This isn't to ogreat of a problem but consider that creating that many messages is probably a pretty friggin huge drain on a server. On a server where potentially 200+ domains can be sending mail, that means each server could be trying to send 1166 emails a minute or 19 a second. That is some hefty CPU usage.

My clients emails will take about 8 hours to send with the cap in place. More tha nlikely what will happen is that each block of 350 will be processed and then the SMTP system will be put on hold for that domain until the next hour.

I can't complain realy, because if someone is using a surpass host for spam, I would want them to be limited.
