Horrible servers.

I wake up today to find my forum erroring, it's saying the thread table doesnt exist, alright, i go to phpmyadmin, it's gone.

Someone deleted it.

i check logs, all of which are wiped clean.

this of course is the last straw with surpass, you'd think they'd have more security. guess not.

thanks alot guys! real great hosting.

Somehow, if security was so bad, then a heck of a lot more accounts would be compromised.

Perhaps you should look at your forum scripts... ever update them?

Regardless, you should be able to get a backup restored from support.

you also have to take into consideration that most people who have sites don't attract alot of..smart people. or at least ones that are knowedlgeable on exploits, and it wasnt ran through my scripts as they deleted cpanel logs, which i highly doubt can be accessed via php scripts.

and i'm giving that a shot right now

Are all of your databases gone? Or just the one table from the one database?

alright, Now i've had it with surpass. Your servers are insecure, cause me to lose data and have my entire site go down, and you want to charge me for a backup?

We only have 1 possible backup for your account. The dates of the files inside range from February 6th of this year(index.html) to August 16th to July 17th of this year. If this is something you would like us to restore for you, please let us know. Also be aware there is a charge associated with this restore.

Regards,
Ben

This is complete BS. I've had just about enough of this.

It is unlikely that the server was compromised. If it was, you would notice a lot more than just one table in a database missing.

What happened was either you had an updated script and somebody exploited it, or the database got corrupted.

Before you say "They wouldn't go after my site". These people don't usually target specific sites, they target specific scripts. They can do a simple search on google for version numbers, and find many sites with something they know exactly how to exploit.

As far as backups, Surpass does keep backups, but only in case of hardware failure, where it is their fault. It is your job to keep backups of your site. This is stated in the terms of service. You should always have backups of your websites, or anything you write, anything on your computer even that you don't want to lose.

this is such a great host, they decide to not let you get support by resetting your user/pw on their helpdesk every 15 minutes.

i've not once had it keep a password for longer than 15 minutes. pathetic isnt it.
