system() disabled? why?

Why was the php function system() disabled?

I was going to use wget to download images, I can't even use file_get_contents() for urls either.

Use curl.

Alot of php functions has been disabled on shared servers on Surpass. I know because it is affecting me and my Wordpress and other scritps =/
